There are 3 Common Types of Informational
Text
❏ Expository Nonfiction
❏ Argumentation
❏ Literary Nonfiction
Expository Nonfiction
❖ Writing that explains or informs {includes business
letters and memos }

Expository Writing may include vivid descriptions


or the narration of personal stories and events that
actually happened

Examples: Diaries, news stories, and How-to passages


that explains the process { Lab Notebooks ,Technical
manuals }
Argumentation
❖ Uses Reasoning to influence people’s ideas and
actions

This writing includes editorial and opinion pieces

Examples: Advertisements,Job application letters ,book


reviews
Literary Nonfiction
❖ Narrative writing that tells a story and often
employs the literary devices found in stories and
novels

Literary Nonfiction could be an anecdote ,a diary ,a


journal , memoir , biography ,or another retelling ofof
true events
Things to use When Reading Informational Text
Cite

❏ Mention a specific portion of a text in order to


support an analysis of the text

Analysis

❏ Look closely at the small parts pf the text to see how


they work together {focus on how the author
develops a central idea or argument }
Inference

❏ Come to an reasonable conclusion based on


evidence found in the text

Evaluate

❏ Determine the value of an argument along with its


reasons and evidence or details in a particular text
Important Tips to apply with Informational Text
❖ Cite strong evidence from a text to support analysis of
what the text says explicitly and can be inferred .
Determine where the text leaves matters uncertain .
❖ Locate support for important ideas and concepts within
the text ; questions ask what you know and how you
know it .
❖ Try to answer the Question before you read the answer
choices .
