COMING-OUT
• It is a term referred to by the society when a labelled straight person
reveals his or her gender identity into public. Considering the
process of which, experiences vary from one to another due to the
upbringing of each homosexualidentified person.

• As a decision-making process that regards the disclosure of identity

for sexual minorities whereas it is a subjective point of view then
that to come-out is dependent upon the person themselves. (Sejal,
et. Al., 2015)

Much of what is recognized as the mainstream LGBTQ advocacy is

based in Manila. However, in many places across the country, you hear
stories that make one realize that keeping the rainbow flag furled is still
the safer bet for many people.

RRL
• The study of Dasso (2015), highlighted that it was easier for those
homosexuals to come-out when they had siblings who were also
homosexuals who had already came-out of their selves.

• Henry (2013) explained that gay and lesbian who had come-out
developed a higher self-esteem and showed a lower level of
depression

• Lynch (2005) that there were significant relationships between age,

coming out, and gay and lesbian identity development which this
study will further dig into if this applies to the modern homosexuals
in our society nowadays.

GAP & OBJECTIVES
THE GAP: Unclothing The Discovery Of Homosexuals' Gender Identity

This research aims to address the following objectives:

1. To identify the struggles of homosexuals prior to their revelation of

their gender.
2. To distinguish the difference between a lesbian and a gay towards
their discovery of their gender.
3. To analyze the processes that the homosexuals undergo towards
discovering their gender.

4
RESULTS
To identify the struggles of homosexuals prior to their revelation of
their gender:
• Homosexuals cannot disclose their identity to their family
because of the fear of rejection.
• Homosexuals tried to hide their true identity until such time
that their family questions them due to their actions.

To distinguish the difference between a lesbian and a gay towards

their discovery of their gender:
• Lesbians are somehow having hard time disclosing their
identity rather than gays due to the society's expectation
and their culture.

5
RESULTS

• Gays easily disclose their identity because in our society

today they are being empowered and the society has
distinguished their contributions.

To analyze the processes that the homosexuals undergo towards

discovering their gender:
• It takes a long time for homosexuals to understand
themselves and as well as accept themselves. The process of
coming-out differs from one person to another.

6
Conclusion & Recommendation
• Struggles that homosexuals experience includes an internal
struggle whereas they fight their own understandings if should they
come-out of their true identity or rather not. Also, they experience
external struggles which includes the discriminations they receive
from the society when they start to act out different from what the
society expects them to be in accordance with the physical sexuality.

• Homosexuals are not excused with the society's expectations

between a girl and a boy because it is a part proven that it is easier
for the society to accept gay and recognize their contributions
rather than to accept lesbians. Thus, lesbians tend to pretend that
they are not one while gays freely enjoy their freedom of disclosing
their identity through many forms such as cross-dressing as a girl,
etc.

7
Conclusion & Recommendation
• Homosexuals undergo the process of questioning themselves first
and they experience things in accordance with what they feel in
order for them to prove their identity. Then they try to come-out by
firstly trying to open up to their close acquaintances. Until such time
that they feel that they are truly being accepted by others.

RECOMMENDATION:
• Eradicate discriminations which starts from the educational
institutions by stopping them to assign groups which are in
accordance with the gender of the students in any manner.

8
Conclusion & Recommendation

RECOMMENDATION:
• Society must understand and instill in their minds that homosexuals
are not ill-people who needs some interventions and isolations in the
society. The society must accept their existence so long as
individualities are not being affected adversely.

• Further researches can be done specifically in terms of the factors

that hinders majorities of homosexuals to come-out and disclose
their true identity
