Calendar-based Pest

Management

Enrico Rafael Y. Pasumbal

Introduction
Calendar-based pest control

- Scheduled control method of pests with regular

intervals of application of pesticides.
- A recommended dosage of pesticides is always
applied on a scheduled basis to prevent/kill pests
regardless of the level of infestation
Objective
- Show the effectiveness of calendar-based pest control
and compare to other pest management methods.

- Compare profitability of calendar-based pest control to

other pest management methods.

Discussion

● Out of the three pest control approaches, the total input

cost of calendar-based pest approach is the highest.
● Regular application of pesticide is a big contributor to
increasing total input costs.
Discussion
● Total income earned is Php 978.25 but the total input
cost is Php 1129.75 which would give a net profit of Php
-151.50.
● There was no profit earned and also a loss of Php 151.50.
● There were missing corn cobs observed which could be a
possible reason of negative profits.
Discussion - Advantages
● High crop value due to very
little or no presence of
pests.
● High returns.
● Prevents pest infestation due
to regular pesticide application

Conclusion
- Calendar-based pest control is a good approach to receive high
yields compared to other approaches in the short term, but in
the long term, the calendar-based approach would lead to
development of pest resistance which would require a stronger
pesticide and therefore higher cost of inputs. The farmer would
also be consistently exposed to harmful chemicals which would
likely lead to detrimental health.
Conclusion
- Calendar-based approach is not good for sustainability in the
long run. Other approaches would be recommended.
