 LABORATORY SERVICES

A medical laboratory is a place where tests are done on clinical specimens

and samples in order to get information about the health of a patient.
It include testing of materials , tissues or fluids obtained from a patient to
determine the cause and nature of disease . I did not notice any problem in
our hospital’s laboratory . But I think the collection process , storage and
technique should be more better . Because the accuracy of the test depend
upon all these merits.
 Imaging Services

Medical Imaging is the visualization of the body part ,

tissues or organs for use in clinical diagnosis,
treatment and disease monitoring . Our hospital
imaging department is always very crowded . The
time does not match according to the time given to
the patients for their procedures . That’s why the
dissatisfaction of the patient is seen . This system has
to be improved by taking corrective action.
 Laundry & Linen Services

Linen and Laundry Services are responsible for

providing safe , clean and uninterrupted supply of
linen to user units of the hospital like OT,ICU,IPD at
right time . The major function of this department is
the infection control by proper handling of
contaminated linen . Our hospital laundry is run by
outsourcing system . If an employee is absent then
for the miscommunication with this outsourcing
service problems can be seen in the whole process .
Proper care should be taken against this.
 Kitchen & Dietary Services

The dietary service is one of the important

supporting service which makes provision for
clean , hygienic and nutritious diet for the indoor
patient as per their caloric requirement . Our
hospital has centralized kitchen but the service is
given by SODEXO(a French food services and
facilities management company).Generally
dietetians identify nutrition problems and
develop diet plans for the patients. When any
supply of food is interrupted then substitute is to
be given for maintaining uninterrupted facility.
Computerized Medical Record

A computerized medical record is the legal patient

record that is created in digital format consisting of
medical history,medication and
allergies,immunization status,laboratory test
results,radiology images,personal states like
age,sex,weight of the patient.Our medical record
department has huge pressure for recording the
uncountable medical history of the patients(IPD &
OPD). For this huge pressure incomplete
information like missing of doctor’s signature and
missing visiting time are observed from OT
Booklets.In this case the medical record department
takes responsibity to complete the incomplete
records.
 Security Services
Healthcare security is defined as a system of safeguards
designed to protect the physical property of the facility
and to achieve relative safety for all people interacting
with the organization and its environment.Our security
service is run by outsourcing system.The availability of
this service in the area of emergency
department,pharmacy area,operation
theatre,laboratory,morgue etc.Security department of
our hospital keeps all the mortuary document and
deceived persons body are ultimately handovered by
them.They also handled all the medico legal cases.
 Transportation Services

The hospital transportation system can be divided into

two groups-
a)Internal Transportation
It include trolleys , stretchers , lifts , escalators etc. In Peerless when
the pressure of the patient is too high the shortage of internal
transportation seen.

b)External Transportation
It Include ambulances , relief van etc . Our hospital has three air
ambulances . If there is need for extra ambulance , then the hospital
is outsourced. Our hospital is doing well in this service according to
my observation.
 Wards

A ward is group of rooms or a section in a hospital

,different wards deal with different needs . Like
our hospital has maternity ward, gynaecology &
obstetrics , executive ward , paediatric
ward,surgical ward etc.There are many types of
critical patients in the wards. Coordination is
very important here.Sometimes nurses forget to
update patient chart details in time.Nurses have
to motivate by training so that the mistakes are
less.
 Public Relations

It is the art of presenting a good image of an

organization to the public . The quality of
medical care is the largest factor responsible for
the good image of the hospital . The service of
claim settlement from insurance company of the
admitted patient is done from this department .
Sometimes in our hospital this service takes a lot
of time . So this matter will be taken up with
TPA/Insurance Company for hassle free cash less
benefits of the Patients.
Out Patient Department(OPD)

It is the department of the hospital where

patients are provided medical consultations and
other allied services . Our hospital has both
centralized and decentralized OPD . Experienced
doctors are visiting everyday to consult with the
various patients of Medicine, Surgery,
Gynaecology, Othopaedics, Gastro medicine,
neurology ,Opthalmology ,etc. OPD are over
crowded by patients.So it is essential to co-
ordinate between doctors and respective
department.
 Pharmacy

Pharmacy is the health profession that links the

health sciences with the chemical sciences
and it is charged with ensuring the safe use of
medication . Our hospital has centralized
pharmacy store . Pharmacy survillence
should be increased more for the purpose of
preventing missuse of the emergency stock.
