May be CPE Faulty • Check the Ethernet/USB cable for loose connection
• Reinsert the cable on PC and ADSL CPE
• Switch ON-OFF the Modem
• Check if LAN card/USB is installed from Network
Adaptor under Device Manager
ADSL/Link LED

Stable OFF Not Stable

• Check & reinsert the cable •Check if any parallel Connection

from Splitter to Modem before splitter
Check ATTEMPTS • Check jumper at MDF •Check if any joints in drop wire
in RADIUS • Check DSLAM port at MDF •Check if proper punching at DP/
• If OK at MDF, line problem Pillar/MDF
•Change ADSL Mode setting from
‘AUTO/ADSL2+/ADSL’
to ‘G.DMT’ or ‘G.Lite
•Check Attn parameters through
PEM or S/R
•Test the DSLAM port at MDF
Check Attempts
For Ericsson http://bol.net.in/bbadmin/bbquery.jsp
For Huawei http://reportstool.mpls.co.in:20080
(Add-Run->drivers->etc->hosts->notepad->add->202.159.215.146

IF Authorized, check status in Modem. It should show “connected” and IP address allotted to
modem
IF Wrong password/VMAC mismatch, Update password or release VMAC
IF status DNP, check at CSMS & send e-mail to NOC if No. is RNP
IF Number Inactive, check whether jumpering is done in correct port corresponding to correct
server (Ericsson/Huawei)
IF NO ATTEMPTS
• Check port profile
• Check port at MDF
• Check connectivity between PC and CPE by pinging 192.168.1.1.(in case of checking at
subs PC)
• Check TCP/IP properties. (in case of checking at subs PC)
• Check configuration of MODEM of subs PC
RADIUS Overview
• RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-in User
Service) is a currently popular security server
protocol

• RADIUS realize AAA functions: Authorization,

Authentication and Accounting.

NO INTERNET BROWSING
• LAN Should be enabled
• Check if correct DNS as per system (Ericsson/Huawei) is being used
DNS for Ericsson & Huawei:

59.179.243.70 & 203.94.243.70

• Check LAN settings of browser under connections (There should be No proxy)

(Tools  Internet options  Connections  LAN Settings  Proxy Server)
• Internet explorer may have trouble.Try with Firefox Mozilla or other browsers
• Check by pinging any site (Start  Run  ping www.google.co.in)
• If pinging, OK, otherwise give command nslookup & then enter site name. It
should resolve the IP address. If not, contact NOC for DNS problem
Speed Problem
• Check BB plan from site (register.bol.net.in for Ericsson &
register.mtnldelhi.in for Huawei) & check if port profile are as
per plan
• Check Downstream rate & Upstream rate from Modem
• Check at MDF for speed & get port synchronized from NOC (if
needed)
• Delete cookies / Temporary internet files / Check RAM /
Disable Firewall (Tools  Internet Options  Delete Cookies
/ Delete Files)
• Low speed could be due to spyware/viruses in PC
• Low speed could be due to low cable pair/high attenuation
• Speed is also affected by PC configuration.
Particular site problem
• Check parameters in Modem:
– MTU = 1492
– MSS = 1360
• Check by pinging the site (ping
www.yahoo.com). If pinging, but site not
opening check browser settings
• If not pinging give command tracert <site
name> and send result to BB unit
Wireless Networking Standards
• Some WLAN standards include: HiperLAN, Bluetooth,
HomeRF.

• There are a couple of standards that describe Wi-Fi. All

of them are part of the 802.11 suite.

• The core protocols are listed in the 802.11 standards,

which was originally available in 1997.
802.11b, 802.11a, and 802.11g

• 802.11b was first to reach the marketplace. It is the

slowest and least expensive of the three. 802.11b
transmits at 2.4 GHz and go up to 11 Mbps.
• 802.11a was next. It operates at 5 GHz and can handle up
to 54 Mbps.
• 802.11g is a mix of both worlds. It operates at 2.4Ghz
(giving it the cost advantage of 802.11b) but it has the 54
megabits per second speed of 802.11a. It is also
backward compatible to 802.11b.
• Most WiFi cards nowadays are capable of all three of
these radio technologies.
WEP

• WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy

• WEP is an encryption system for the data that 802.11 sends
through the air.
• WEP has two variations: 64-bit encryption (really 40-bit) and
128-bit encryption (really 104-bit).
• 40-bit encryption was the original standard but was found to
be easily broken.
• 128-bit encryption is more secure and is what most people
use if they enable WEP.
• For a casual user, any hotspot that is using WEP is inaccessible
unless you know this WEP key.
Wireless Configuration
 To configure the Wireless Section click on the Wireless Button
 This will open the Wireless Basic configuration page as shown in the Picture below.
 Enter the name of the Access Point SSID, Check the “Enable Access Point” check box
and select the Country.
 After making the changes click on Save and Apply. By default Wireless section is
configured with SSID as INDIA, Country as India. And it is also enabled by default.
Wireless Configuration
 Network Authentication and Data Encryption for the Wireless section can be
configured by clicking on the Security Button under wireless section as shown in
the Picture below. This is for Secure communication from the PCs to the
Modem.

 Use the Pull down Menu to configure the required options for Authentication and
Encryption
Wireless Configuration
 Using MAC Filter option under the Wireless Section Menu Nodes or PCs can be
restricted. This is to prevent Un authorized access to the Modem. In the Menu
Below click on the Add and then enter the MAC Addresses of the PCs that are
allowed to access the Internet.

 For Advanced options refer to the User Manual supplied with the Modem.
For restricting access to Wireless router (thus Internet
also) can be done by putting MAC Address of NIC Cards
from which access to be allowed in the wireless set up
as explained below.
Open the router homepage http://192.168.1.1
go to Interface Setup --> Wireless
Under Wireless MAC Addess filter heading , select
'Active' as Activated
Select 'Action' as Allow Dissociation and type MAC
Addresses of NIC Cards from which access to be
allowed.
For eg: If a PC which has an NIC card having a MAC
Address 00:E0:4C:69:10:C7 has to be allowed to access
the wireless router, settings should be made as shown
below
