THIS PROJECT IS ABOUT: How many people watch memes and how much they pay attention in class.
The Hypothesis is:
If r=-0.159, the correlation is positive meaning
as memes increase grades increase. The correlation of -0.159 means the correlation is weak. Meaning the correlation is not valid. Since r= -0.159 then r² = 0.025 meaning any prediction has a 2.5% variation. Our method used is an example of a sample survey. This describes the process of selecting a sample of elements from a target population to conduct a survey. Data Set Population is the entire group of individuals being studied. Students from DAHS.
Sample is part of the population from which we actually collect
data. Students from DAHS that have/have not seen memes and their latest stats or math grades.
Variable is any characteristic of an individual. Memes describe
the explanatory variable and grades describe the response variable. This is because the response variable is affected by the explanatory variable. Data Table We chose the explanatory and response variables as identified because memes affect the grades and the explanatory variable affects the response variable. Graph Interpret r & r 2
The interpretation of r is to describe
the direction and the strength of a straight line relationship. The interpretation of r² is the variation in the values of y that is explained by the least squares regression of y on x. Prediction If r = -0.159, the correlation is negative meaning as memes decrease, grades increase. The correlation of -0.159 means the correlation is not valid. Since r = -0.159 then r² = 0.025 meaning any prediction has a 2.5% variation. Lurking Variables A variable that has an important effect on the relationship among variables in a study but is not one of the explanatory variables. As memes increase, stats grades increase. Is how much you pay attention in class. This is an example of confounding causation. Conclusion In conclusion, if r= -0.159, the correlation is negative meaning as memes decrease, grades increase. The correlation of -0.159 means it is not valid. The hypothesis appears to be correct because the correlation is of r= -0.159 strength is weak and is not valid. Citations Adamson, Erika.
