Institutional Corruption
• Pakistan has had a problem of corruption since it came into being.
The change in regimes between military and civilian institutions due
to three different successful coups have also weakened the anti-
corruption institutions. This may also be noted that a significant
improvement in corruption in Pakistan has not occurred either in
civilian government or in military government.
• In 2017, Pakistan's prime minister Nawaz Sharif was declared
ineligible to hold office for life by Supreme Court of Pakistan after
charges of corruption were filed against him. Cases pertaining to his
corruption are still ongoing in the superior court.

• Pakistani gangs active in the United Kingdom, as well as several
Scandinavian countries to a lesser extent, more closely resemble strictly
organized crime groups.[24] Great Britain-based Pakistani organized crime
groups are mostly known for drug trafficking (mainly heroin), arms
dealing, as well as other criminal activities.
Organised Crimes
• Pakistan is also known to large drug cartels which export heroin created
in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is known to be the largest producer of heroin
on earth (see Opium production in Afghanistan), but due no existing
connections to the International waters, most heroin is exported through
Pakistan to various regions on earth, such as Middle east, Europe, and
Australia.
Drugs
• Drug addiction is defined as compulsive and out-of-control drug use,
despite negative consequences. In the last few decades, drug addiction
has increased exponentially in Pakistan.
• Most of the illegal drugs come from the Afghanistan. The country that is
responsible for at least 75% of the world's heroin. UNODC calculates that
more than 800,000 Pakistanis aged between 15 and 64 use heroin
regularly. It is also estimated that up to 44 tons of processed heroin are
consumed annually in Pakistan.
Drugs
• According to the 2013 national survey on "Drug Use in Pakistan", 4.25
million people are considered dependent on substances and require
structured treatment for their drug use disorder .Survey findings show
that cannabis is the most commonly used drug, with around 4 million
users nationwide. Around 860,000 people used heroin regularly,
approximately 19,000 people reported they had used methamphetamine
and nearly 1.6 million people reported misuse of prescription opioids
(painkillers) for non-medical use. In order to better understand the scale
and magnitude of drug use in the country, especially after the exponential
increase in poppy cultivation and opium production in the region,
preparations are underway to launch a fresh drug use survey in the
country.
