Introduction
▶ Cables play vital role in the transmission of electrical power or signals.
▶ A Cable is an assembly of one or more wires which may be insulated and used for conducting electrical
energy between it's ends.
▶ The project involves
1) Improving the material handling of the work in process materials by designing and implementing
TRACKS around the machines in the job shop area. Thus reducing the material damages and labour
fatigue.
2) Optimizing the material consumption, in order to determine reorder quantity of raw materials in
consistent with the demand, by implementing an Operational Management tool called ‘Linear
Programming Problem’

Problem Definition

1)The electrical wires are wound around the bobbin after manufacturing . These bobbins may sometimes
go for some more further operations for which it requires manual pushing of the bobbins to the respective
operations .
▶ As it involves manual pushing of the bobbins (which weigh in tonnes) by the labourer, It consumes a lot
energy and this leads to fatigue and muscle strain to the labourer.
▶ And also the bobbins sometimes while being pushed tends towards right and left direction . So again it
has to be brought back to its correct path. This results in the floor damage.
▶ Also there's no proper storage of work in process materials in the storage area due to which the
bobbins touch one another and leads to the material damage.
2) Reorder of raw materials are done irregularly without scheduling which leads to excess or shortage of
raw materials.
Objectives

1. To minimize the material and floor damage.

2. To ease the material flow and reduce the labourer fatigue and strain.
3. To facilitate proper storage of work in process materials.
4. To determine the optimum raw material consumption.

Expected Results

1. Ease of flow of material around the machines on the Tracks.

2. Minimized material and floor damage by implementing Tracks.
3. Minimized labour efforts.
4. Optimized raw material consumption.
