What is Bank ?
 A bank is a financial institution, which
deals with money and credit. It accepts
deposits from individuals, firms and
companies at a lower rate of interest and
gives at a higher rate of interest to those
who need them. The difference is
between the terms at which it borrows
and those at which it lends from the
source of it profit. A bank, thus, is a profit
earning institution.
Introduction to Meezan Bank Ltd.
 MEEZAN was establishes as an Islamic
Investment Bank in 1997 as “AL MEEZAN
INVESTMENT BANK LTD”. After the successful
completion and great struggle First Islamic
Commercial Bank’s license was awarded to AL
MEEZAN Investment Bank in year 2002, to start
the commercial banking facilities they bought
the local operations of “Society General”
(French Bank) 03 branches and started the
commercial Islamic banking in the country.
 Meezan Bank stands today at a noteworthy
point along the evolution of Islamic Banking in
Pakistan. The banking sector is showing a
significant paradigm shift away from traditional
means of business and is catering to an
increasingly astute and demanding financial
consumer who is also becoming keenly aware
of Islamic Banking. Meezan Bank bears the
critical responsibility of leading the way forward
in establishing a stable and dynamic Islamic
Banking system replete with dynamic and
cutting-edge products and services.
 The Bank has made fundamental and
significant progress forward, and in doing so
has established a strong and credible
management team comprised of
experienced professionals, which have
achieved a strong balance sheet with
excellent operating profitability, including a
capital adequacy ratio that places the Bank
at the top of the industry, a long-term entity
rating of A+, and a short-term entity rating of
A1+, the highest short-term rating.

 Human Resource Department is the strongest
department of every organization and so as of
MEEZAN bank. It plays an important function
within an organization to manage
employment. Being resource-centered on
manpower, it focuses on recruiting the right
people for the right job and set precise
directions for employees to meet organization’s
goals. It involves the productive use of people
in achieving the organization’s strategic
objectives and the satisfaction of individual
employee needs.
HR Objectives
 The objectives are to look out for the well being of
all employees of Meezan Bank. Provide leadership
and direction to employees of the company.
Career Developing planning for all employees of
the company. Ensure thorough training of

Job analysis
 Job analysis is the systematic process collecting
information about the jobs, including the purpose
of each job, its duties, its place in the
organizational hierarchy, its working conditions
and employee’s requirement.
 MEEZAN bank uses job analysis by which the
duties of the position and the characteristics of
the specific person relating to that job are
determined. Job analysis produces information
that is used for writing job specification and job
description.

Job description:
 For MEEZAN bank, job description includes the list of TDRs to
define a specific job;
 T means 'tasks'
 D means 'duties'
 R means 'responsibilities.

Job specification:
 For MEEZAN bank, job specification indicates the
acceptable qualification that an individual must possess to
successfully perform the elements of a job. It includes the
list of KSAOs for the job;

Human resource planning(HRP)
 Human resource planning is the systematic process of
determining organizations human resource needs.
 MEEZAN bank ensures in human resource planning that it has
right number of qualified persons available at the proper times
and programming jobs that are useful both to the bank and to
the employees involved. It also includes ‘manpower planning’,
as the qualified persons are ensured and their jobs are
programmed afterwards.
 In MEEZAN bank, the responsibility of such planning is shared by
several people within the bank. The complete structure or
platform is present in MEEZAN bank for human resource
planning.
 MEEZAN bank’s human resource department assesses the needs
of the people for the organization and calculates the number of
people working present in the organization. It the forecasts
present and future needs of the people in the organization.
Recruitment
 Recruitment is the systematic process of identifying potential
candidate for the vacant position of the organization; it is the
process of finding the right person for the right job at the right
time.
 MEEZAN has multi dimensional recruitment policy in order to
achieve the objective to meet the requirements of functional
areas to cope with day to day basis. Recruitment is the activity
that links the organization and the job seekers.
 The process begins when new recruits are sought and ends
when their applications are settled. The result appears as a pool
of applications from which new employees are selected. It is the
process to discover the sources of manpower to meet the
requirements of staffing schedule and to employ effective
measures for attracting that manpower in adequate numbers.

Selection
Selection is the process of choosing the applicants who best suit vacant positions and
organizational needs.
 Recruitment is a function preceding selection, creating a pool of prospective
employees for MEEZAN bank, so that management can select the best one.
Selection process:
 The following is the selection process which is followed by MEEZAN bank.
 Initial screening:
 Initial screening is the process of eliminating the applicants based on job specification
and job description.
Application blank:
 After screening, applicants are asked to complete the application forms of MEEZAN
bank. This includes applicant’s name, address, contact no., CNIC no., qualification and
experience etc.
Pre-employment test:
 MEEZAN then conduct a pre-employment test to evaluate
the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant. Following
tests are conducted by MEEZAN bank:
 General intelligence test.
 Aptitude test.
 Personality and interest test.

Interview:
 MEEZAN conduct the interview to obtain information about

 In human resource management, training and development is

Performance management
 In MEEZAN bank, performance is defined by the outcomes of
behavior. Behavior is an individual activity and the outcomes of
behavior are the ways in which the behaving environment is identified
by the behavior of an individual.
 “Performance, then, is the achievement of some condition that
reflects one or more outcomes of the behavior of one or more
individuals”.
 Performance management is a process of shared understanding of
what is to be achieved and how it is to be achieved. In MEEZAN bank,
it is an approach to managing people that increases the chances of
achieving success.
Management by objective (MBO):
 A performance appraisal method that includes mutual objective
setting and evaluation based on the attainment of specific objectives.
 In MEEZAN bank, through MBO system, employee performance was
categorized into four parts; 6%, 8% and 10%, 12% to form a bell curve.
Rates and rewards are also revised ranging from 0% to 12%. All this
leads to strengthen “Pay for Performance” culture
Reward System
 Rewards are the benefits or incentives given

performance.

employees on the basis of their performance
and to appraise their performances. Rewards
are actually a form of motivation that
