History of Photo

Timeline
By Andrew and Jack and Pounsavahn
Origins of the term “Photography”
The word "photography" was created from the
Greek roots phōtos, genitive of phōs, "light" and
graphé, "representation by means of lines" or
"drawing", together meaning "drawing with light".
First Camera
Camera Obscura is invented in 1021 it was the first camera.
Portable
First portable camera made in 1685. Now cameras
could be carried around and brought to the spot
that the photographer wanted it to be.
Daguerreotype-1839

Invented by Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre and introduced worldwide in 1839, daguerreotype

was almost completely superseded by 1860 with new, less expensive processes yielding more
readily viewable images.
Calotype-1841
Calotype or talbotype is an early photographic process introduced in 1841 by William Henry
Fox Talbot, using paper coated with silver iodide.
Wet Collodion Photography-1851
Requires the photographic material to be coated, sensitized,
exposed and developed within the span of about fifteen
minutes, necessitating a portable darkroom for use in the field.
The collodion process is said to have been invented in 1851,
almost simultaneously, by Frederick Scott Archer and Gustave
Le Gray.
Color Photography-1861
Color photography is photography that uses media capable of reproducing colors. In color
photography, electronic sensors or light-sensitive chemicals record color information at the
time of exposure. This is usually done by analyzing the spectrum of colors into three channels
of information, one dominated by red, another by green and the third by blue, in imitation of the
way the normal human eye senses color.
Dry Plate Photography-1871
Dry plate, also known as gelatin process, is an improved
type of photographic plate. It was invented by Dr. Richard
L. Maddox in 1871, and by 1879 it was so well introduced
that the first dry plate factory had been established. With
much of the complex chemistry work centralized into a
factory, the new process simplified the work of
photographers, allowing them to expand their business.
Kodak Roll Film Camera-1881
Roll Film or roll film is any type of spool-wound
photographic film protected from white light exposure by
a paper backing, as opposed to film which is protected
from exposure and wound forward in a cartridge. In 1881
a farmer in Cambria, Wisconsin, Peter Houston, invented
the first roll film camera.
Polaroid Instant Photography-1923
The Polaroid Instant Camera is a type of camera which uses self-developing film to create a
chemically developed print shortly after taking the picture. The earliest Polaroid, which
consisted of a camera and portable wet darkroom in a single compartment, was invented in
1923 by Samuel Shlafrock.
Kodachrome Film-1935

Non-substantive, color reversal film introduced by Eastman Kodak in 1935. It was one of the
first successful color materials and was used for both cinematography and still photography.
First Digital Camera-1975
A digital camera or digicam is a camera that captures
photographs in digital memory. Most cameras produced today
are digital.Digital camera introduced as a commercial product
in 1975.
Most Modern Camera
The Z 6 is perhaps the most adaptable camera Nikon has
ever created. It’s at the sweet spot of speed, resolution and
low-light performance. All combined with the advantages of a
lightweight mirrorless design, a revolutionary new full-frame
lens mount with matched lenses and seamless integration
with Nikon’s DSLR system.
