ORGANIC FERTILIZER

ORGANIC FARMING
Agricultural system that uses ecologically
based pest controls and biological fertilizers
derived largely from animal and plant wastes
and nitrogen-fixing cover crops. Modern
organic farming was developed as a response
to the environmental harm caused by the use
of chemical pesticides and synthetic
fertilizers in conventional agriculture, and it
has numerous ecological benefits.
Vermicompost is the product of the composting process using
various species of worms, usually red wigglers, white worms, and
other earthworms, to create a mixture of decomposing vegetable
or food waste, bedding materials, and vermicast. Vermicast is
the end-product of the breakdown of organic matter by
earthworms.
GREEN LEAF MANURE
 Application of green leaves and twigs of trees, shrubs
and herbs collected from elsewhere is known as green
leaf manuring. Forest tree leaves are the main sources
for green leaf manure. Plants growing in wastelands,
field bunds etc., are another source of green leaf
manure. The important plant species useful for green
leaf manure are neem, mahua, wild indigo, Glyricidia,
Karanji (Pongamia glabra) calotropis, avise(Sesbania
grandiflora), subabul and other shrub
Crop rotation
 Crop rotation is the systematic planting of
different crops in a particular order over several
years in the same growing space. This process
helps maintain nutrients in the soil, reduce soil
erosion, and prevents plant diseases and pests.
 The term “biological control” or “biocontrol” refers to the
use of naturally found microorganisms which antagonize
the postharvest pathogens we wish to suppress.
Antagonism between microorganisms is a ubiquitous
phenomenon involving fungi (including yeasts) and
bacteria which naturally inhabit the soil and the surfaces of
various plant organs (Blakeman and Fokkema, 1982;
Fokkema and van den Heuvel, 1986; Andrews, 1992). It is
assumed that biocontrol of plant diseases occurs naturally
on aerial plant surfaces and may be one of the main reasons
why crops are protected to some extent during their
cultivation (Droby et al., 1996).
Animal husbandry is the branch of
agriculture concerned with animals that
are raised for meat, fibre, milk, eggs, or
other products. It includes day-to-day
care, selective breeding and the raising of
livestock
A biofertilizer is a substance which contains
living microorganisms which, when applied
to seeds, plant surfaces, or soil, colonize the
rhizosphere or the interior of the plant and
promotes growth by increasing the supply or
availability of primary nutrients to the host
plant.
Manure is organic matter, mostly derived from
animal feces except in the case of green manure,
which can be used as organic fertilizer in
agriculture.
