Hetherington Baseball

Clinic
Ian Hetherington
Executive Summary

• I am looking to open a business that will help kids with improving in their
baseball skills so that they can become better baseball player. Field rental is
free as long as the business works when the city does not have any baseball
games on the baseball diamond. I am looking for money to purchase a couple of
baseball bats and a bunch of baseballs for this business. I would also need a tee
to help the kids with hitting the baseball. A decent tee costs about $30.
Baseballs cost around $67 dollars for 24 balls. The business would need 3
buckets for using for hitting and fielding that way when we are hitting we have
2 buckets to throw before we need to pick up the baseballs. Baseball bats cost
anywhere from $24 to $150 dollars. The kids should have their own baseball
bats so we would only get 2 bats for me to use for hitting the kids the ball for
fielding. These bats are Fungo Bats and cots around $50. I would need about
$1000 total for the bats, the tee and balls plus money to get my ads out there
so people would come to my clinic.
Business Description

• The industry is very popular right now as a lot of youth are playing
baseball and could use some help to get better in the way that
they play. In the area where I am interested in opening the
business there is only one place for improving your baseball skills
and that is Bullett Proof Baseball Academy. I would be charging
$30 for one hour or if the parents want a bundle of 10 lessons the
price would be 10 lessons for $250. Depending on what the kids
want to improve their parents would tell me and then we would
spend the hour working on that skill.
Market Strategies

• I would use Facebook ads to target adults over the age of 29 so

that way if they had kids who played baseball my ad would show
up on their Facebook feed. I would make myself a website as well
so that way when people search “baseball clinic in niagara” it
would show a link to my website. I can also use google ads to put
my ad out every time someone searches “baseball” when that
person is located in the Niagara region.
Competitive Analysis

• The only other baseball clinic in welland is Bullett Proof Baseball

Academy. Bullett Proof is run by former major league baseball
player Scott Bullett. His company charges $50-$60 dollars per
hourly lesson. My business charges about half the price of Bullett
Proof and the training is the same because when I was younger I
was playing for Bullett Proof baseball so I received all the same
training that is given to current BP students.
Operations & Management Plan

• The Business would run from once the snow has melted until the
30th of October. This is the ideal time frame as this would help
them before the season and it would continue 2 months after the
season ends so they can still practice their skills when trying out
for rep baseball. There would only be one manager and that
manager takes care of the financial part, scheduling lessons,
replying to email, running the lessons and marketing so the
business can make a profit on the lessons.
Financial Factors

• As I said in the start I think $1000 start up cash would be enough

to get the business started because supplies are needed to get
going. If the business charges $30 per lesson in order to stay afloat
I would need about 10-15 lessons per week. If 10-15 lessons per
week got the money that was spent on supplies back it would then
be able to be used to buy even more supplies. As a high school
student who doesn’t have to pay bills for my place of residence so
I would only need to pay taxes on the money that I make.
