Importance of thing.
Definition

A value is something that has worth or important to a


person. It consist a judgmental elements. It carries an
individual’s ideas as to what is right.

Values are global beliefs that guide actions and judgments


across a variety of situations.- Milton Rokeach

Work and Career :- individual’s career includes the task or

responsibilities associated with a particular job in an organization. It create

special values and reflects in ideas and behaviors of the individual. .


Types of Values

G.W.Allport , P.E.Vermon and G.Lindzey categorized value


into six type:-

-Theoretical:- Interest in the discovery of truth through


reasoning and systematic thinking.

-Economic :- Interest in accumulation of wealth.

-Aesthetic , Social , Political ,Religious .

Graves’s has classified various personal values into


5 categories.
Existentialism:- Orientation of behavior agreeing with existing realities.
Conformistic :- Orientation towards achievement of material beliefs
through control over physical resources.

Sociocentric :- Orientaton with getting along with people.


Tribalistic :- Orientation towards safety by submitting to power.
Egocentric :- Orientation to survival and power.
Rokeach’s Classification:-
Terminal values:- What a person is ultimately striving to achieve.
Like; equality among all people, Happiness and satisfaction in life,
Knowledge and wisdom, pride in accomplishment etc……

Instrumental Values:- It deals with means for achieving desired


ends like; hard work and achievement, self sufficiency and
independence, truthfulness and honesty, open-mindedness,
receptivity to new ideas etc…………

Lack of Punctuality and hard work.
Cut Throat competition.
Self Interest.
Lack of respect for others.
Lack of sincerity towards work.
Career oriented Education system.
Double income no kids(DINK) Family composition.
Lack of simplicity.
Wear cloth to attract others and believe in exposure.
