Type Code Labels and

FlashScan® Type
For All Onyx Panels including the NFS-320,
NFS2-640 and NFS2-3030
What is the Difference Between Type Code
Label, and FlashScan® Type?
What is the Difference Between Type Code
Label, and FlashScan® Type?

•Type Code Label defines what you wish to do with a device

•FlashScan® Type is determined by what type of device is being

used.
What is the Difference Between Type Code
Label, and FlashScan® Type?

•Example: FSP-851 photo-electric smoke detector

•It can be an alarm input, or a supervisory.

•If supervisory, it can be tracking or latching.

•This is all determined by the Type Code Label.

•Regardless of selection, the FlashScan® Type will be PHOTO.

Type Code Labels

Type Code Labels are software selections for:

 Initiating devices
 Detectors
 Monitor Modules

 Output devices
 Control Modules
 Relay Modules
 NACs
Type Code Labels for Detectors

• There are many types of Detectors

– Photo
– Ion
– Laser
– Heat (Fixed and Rate of Rise)
– Acclimate ® Plus™
– HARSH™ (Hostile ARea Smoke Head)
– IntelliQuad™ (Smoke, Heat, IR and CO)

Type Code Labels for Input Modules

After auto-programming….

…. Default Type Code Label is MONITOR

…. FlashScan ® Type is MONITOR or MINI/DUAL

The panel doesn’t know what is connected to it

It is up to YOU to tell it!

Type Code Labels for Input Modules

Here are some examples of Monitor Module Type Code Labels.

*Note that this Type Code Label only applies to the NFS2-3030.

**Type Code Labels also allow for some system functions, such
as Acknowledge, Silence, Reset, and Drill
Type Code Labels for Output Modules

After auto-programming….

…. the panel will often set default values to CONTROL or RELAY

with the appropriate FlashScan ® Type.

Again, the panel doesn’t know what is connected to it.

It is up to YOU to tell it!

look different, but the selection process is the same.
FlashScan® Type

• When the panel is auto-programmed, the appropriate

selection will be made.

• Most of the time, this is sufficient.

• However, there are a few instances to watch out for.

FlashScan® Type Issue #1

• FlashScan® Type for the FDM-1, FMM-101, and XP-10M

monitor modules is MINI/DUAL.

• If Type Code Label is changed using VeriFire Tools (i.e.

WATERFLOW), it reverts to the generic FlashScan® Type of
MONITOR.

• This will result in an Invalid Reply trouble for the device.

• It must be set to Mini/Dual prior to downloading.

FlashScan® Type Issue #1

Screen as it would appear after initial auto-program.

Note that default values are set.
FlashScan® Type Issue #1

Change type Code

Label to something
else, like H20 flow.
FlashScan® Type Issue #1

Note what happens

to the FlashScan®
Type selection.

This would have to set back to the MINI/DUAL selection to function properly.
FlashScan® Type Issue #2

• For certain releasing Type Code Labels, the

FlashScan® Type is automatically set to RELEASE.

• Recall that the FlashScan® Type is set by the

hardware, not the application.

• Results in an Invalid Reply trouble

• RELEASE FlashScan® Type is only for the FCM-1 REL

module

• Only applies to VeriFire™ Tools programming

FlashScan® Type Issue #2

This Type Code Label is

used for a relay used to
perform a releasing
function

Since it is an FRM-1 Relay

Module, this is the incorrect
FlashScan® Type.
FlashScan® Type Issue #2

This Type Code Label is

used for a relay used to
perform a releasing
function

The correct FlashScan®

Type is RELAY
