1. SITE LOCATION
 Place:
• It stands on a spur of the Nilgiris, being 300 feet above the lake,
commanding a wide stretch of hills and valleys covered with tea and
cinchona plantations, eucalyptus woods.
 Latitude:
• 11.4206° N
 Longitude:
• 76.7031° E
 Altitude:
• 2240m
 FAR (FLOOR AREA RATIO):
• BUILD UP SPACE- 1.02 ac
• TOTAL PLOT AREA- 8.3 ac
Climatic condition:
• Ooty features a subtropical highland climate.
• Despite its location in the tropics, in contrast with most of South
India, Ooty generally features mild conditions throughout the
year.
• However, night time in the months of January and February is
typically cold. Generally, the town appears to be eternally stuck
in the spring season.
• Temperatures are relatively consistent throughout the year; with
average high temperatures ranging from about 17–20 °C (63–68
°F) and average low temperatures between approximately 5–12
°C (41–54 °F).

2.APPROACH ROAD
 Direction:
• South East to North West
 Width:
• The width of the road which joins at the main entrance is about 4 m.
 Nature of traffic:
• There is not much of traffic because there is no other commercial or
educational building other than a hotel. Heavy traffic occurs seasonally and
during weekends.
 Condition of road (Pakka,Katcha,Semi Pakka):
• The approach road is considered to be pakka since the material used is
bitumen.

3.SURROUNDING LAND USE
 Offsite benefits:
• There is a lot of vegetation present around the site which is
acts as a barrier from the external disturbances such as
noise, pollution etc.

 Offsite nuisance:
• There is a hotel which is located next to the site other than
that there is no other external disturbances.
NORTH-Agricultural land
is present in the north side
of the school .
South-Residential spaces
are present in the south side
of the plot.Since this
residential space is present
close to the school it is easily
accessible for the students.

4.SITE
Plot area:
The total plot area comes up to 8.3 ac.
Topography:
The topography is rolling and steep as well as flat at main areas like the
basketball courts and the main ground. Cut and fill method would have
be followed in such places.
Landscape:
In case of landscape there are eucalyptus trees and flowering plants
present around as well as inside the site which acts as barrier from the
external distubances.

6.EXISTING LANDSCAPE
 Existing plant types:
• There are eucalyptus trees, ferns, cinchona
plantations and other flowering plants in and
around the site.
 Existing natural Elements: Water bodies
etc.:
• There are no water bodies which are present on
site as well as off-site. A forest is present off site
which acts as a barrier from off-site nuisances like
noise etc.
7.EXISTING BUILDING SERVICES
 WATER:
• There are many tanks which are present on
site in which water is stored and used for
other purposes. There are two rain water
harvesting tanks in which water is collected
and stored.
 Power:
• There is a constant supply of electricity since it is a residential as well as a
day school. There are generators and UPS systems which are used in case
of any emergency and power cut.
 Drainage:
• The drain direction is towards the slope in the topography. All drains are
placed in such a way that it flows along with the
slope of the
terrain.
 Waste disposal:
• Waste which being collected in the over all level
in the school is stored in a place and then
disposed in a way that is it is meant to be
disposed.
 Lighting:
• All the class rooms are well illuminated and there is not much of glare except for a few
spaces.Ventilators and glass planes are provided in the walls in order to provide goo
lighting to the corridors as well as the rooms.
 Security:
• In case of security, there are many cameras which has been fitted in
the campus. There is only one entrance to the school and the other
paths of the space in the other directions have been blocked by
natural barriers and well as walls etc. Since it is a girls school the
security in the school is high and only selected people will be allowed
in to the campus.
 Fire safety:
• There are fire extinguishers which arte fitted in every corridor.
• And there are no materials present in the building which provokes fire.
 Entry/exit:
• There is only on entry and exit for the
whole campus.
 Parking:
• There are 3 spaces for parking in the
campus one is opposite to the mess, the
other one is next to the entrance and the
other is in the old basketball court. Parking
as per the requirement is not sufficient .
No segregation of vehicular and pedestrian
entry.

It has vertical zoning and the whole building has 3 levels.

It is used in the new block
• Stone
• Tiles:
Tiles are used in the corridor as well as in
some of the class rooms
• Rugs:
Rugs are used in the class rooms in order
to reduce the effect of coldness.
• Asbestos:
Asbestos is used as a roofing material in
the main block.
• Wood:
Wood is used as a flooring material in the
dormitory area as well in the biology lab
