ABSTRACT
• In this work , samples of manjira river water were
collected into different zones.Over the due to
course of time various parameters regarding the
water quality were analysed and the Indian
standards:10500 (Drinking water specification )
was referred to in order to check the acceptability
of Water.

• The parameters which were analyzed are as total

dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, pH,chloride
content, conductivity, total chlorine demand,
turbidity tests.

INTRODUCTION

• The water required for public water supply should be

potable or wholesome water that is fit for drinking and
irrigation purpose.
• Most of the impurities present in water are
microscopic in nature and can not be detected with the
naked eye.the river contains three types of impurities
are physical, chemical and bacteriological impurities.
• Examination of water in laboratory is essential to
know the presence and concentration of different
impurities in water.
• Water quality parameters satisfied Indian standard
drinking specification, that water is supplied to public.
Especially, the water is free from pathoy bacteria.

8
OBJECTIVES

• To assess the quality of raw water and the

concentration of various impurities.

• Easy to removing undesirable chemicals, biological

contaminants, suspended solids, gas

• To improve the water quality parameters.

• To find out the organisms responsible for spreading

water borne diseases.

• The analysis helps in determining the optimum dose of

chemicals to be used in instrument.
9
PROJECT SCOPE

• To reduce water pollution.

• To know, how to treatment of river water

• To study the parameters and behavior of river water.

• Water borne diseases are reduced.

• Save the aquatic life.

• To protect the peoples and animals life against

drinking river water.

TURBIDITY TEST
Observations:

Sample no Nephelometer turbidity unit (

NTU )

1 1.59

2 2.20

As per Indian Standards: 10500 (Drinking water

specifications) Turibidity limits = Less than 10
NTU

Calculations :
TDS = b - a / v ×1000
TDS = 41.25 - 35.500 / 30 × 1000
= 191.66 ppm

Blank sample 100 0 15 15
Manjira Sample 100 15 21 6

CALCULATIONS:

Chloride in mg/L = 44.99 mg/L

As per Indian Standards: 10500 (Drinking water

specifications) Chlorides limits = 150–250 mg/l

16
RESULTS

• Turbidity test = 1.85 NTU

• Total dissolved solids = 191.66ppm

• Total dissolved oxygen = 13.5 mg / liter

• Ph test = 7.9

• Total conductivity = 1933 mohs / cm

• Total chlorides = 44.99 mg/L

17
Conclusion
1. In dissolved oxygen test, chlorides test results is
high compared Indian standard drinking water
specifications ,so it is unfit for drinking purpose.
2.pH and turbidity results are within Indian standard
specifications only.
3. Alkalinity and acidity, within limits of Indian
standard specifications.
4. Finally, the some test satisfying Indian standards
others tests not satisfying Indian standard
specification.
