known in the middle of 19th
Century. Philippine sculpture
reach its peak in the works of
Guillermo Tolentino (1890-
1976). His best known
masterpiece the Bonifacio
Monument.

• The United States occupied the islands
from 1898 until 1946 and introduced
American blues, folk music, R & B and
Rock and Roll which became popular . In
the late 1950’s the natives performers
adapted Tagalog lyrics for North American
Rock and Roll music.
