• Error Messages and Warning Flags


– Error messages will appear when system input is found
to be outside the bounds of the acceptable limits of the
program.
– Warning flags will show up after the calculations are
performed on the given system. These flags will
indicate results which are not in agreement with
acceptable system performance parameters.

• Maximum cylinder fill range exceeded.


– The initial fill density in the cylinder(s) is greater
than the maximum allowed.
Possible Corrections
1. Increase the container size.
2. Decrease the fill weight in the container.
3. Utilize a multiple container arrangement.

• Minimum cylinder fill range not exceeded.


– The initial fill density in the cylinder(s) is less than
the minimum allowed.
Possible Corrections
1. Decrease the container size.
2. Increase the fill weight in the container.

• Cylinder filled to the nearest pound/half kg (rounding
up).
– Agent quantity supplied must be in whole pounds or half
kilogram increments. For multiple cylinder systems, the
total amount of agent must be evenly divisible by the
number of cylinders.
Possible Corrections
1. Return to the Adjust Agent Required screen and
manually increase the agent quantity in the New Agent
Amount field.

• Maximum percent agent in pipe is exceeded.
– The amount of agent in the pipe at a given time is
greater than 70% of the initial agent liquid volume
in the cylinder(s).
Possible Corrections
1. Reduce pipe size(s) throughout network.
2. Relocate cylinder(s) and/or nozzle(s) to reduce piping
runs.

• Minimum orifice area to pipe area ratio not exceeded.


– The ratio between the nozzle orifice area for a nozzle at
the given note and the pipe cross-sectional area for the
pipe segment preceding that nozzle is less than 0.2, or
20%.
Possible Corrections
1. Increase nozzle orifice size.
2. Decrease pipe size upstream of nozzle.

– The ratio between the nozzle orifice area for a
nozzle at the given node and the pipe cross-
sectional area for the pipe segment preceding
that nozzle exceeds 0.8, or 80%

1. Reduce nozzle orifice size.
2. Increase pipe size upstream of nozzle.

• Minimum percent agent before the first tee is not
exceeded.
– The amount of agent in the pipe before the first tee
[closest to the supply cylinder(s)] is less than the
required percent of the initial agent mass in the
cylinder(s).
Possible Corrections
1. Relocate cylinder(s) or re-route pipe run before the first tee.
2. Shift tee later in the network.
3. Increase pipe size before first tee.
4. Reduce total pipe volume by decreasing pipe sizes and
shortening pipe runs.

• Maximum discharge time exceeded.
– To insure rapid fire extinguishment and to limit the
generation of acid gas decomposition products, the
maximum discharge time must not be exceeded.
Possible Corrections Include:
1. Increase nozzle orifice size(s).
2. Utilize larger cylinder.
3. Utilize larger pipe(s).
4. Re-route pipe run(s) to reduce lengths.
5. Relocate nozzles to reduce pipe lengths.
6. Relocate cylinder(s) to reduce pipe lengths.

– The minimum required discharge time for the
system was not exceeded.
Possible Corrections
1. Decrease nozzle orifice size(s).
2. Utilize smaller cylinder.
3. Utilize smaller pipe(s).
4. Re-route pipe run(s) to increase lengths.
5. Relocate nozzles to increase pipe lengths.
6. Relocate cylinder(s) to increase pipe lengths.

• Predicted agent concentration is below minimum
design concentration.
– The quantity of agent must be at least 100% of the design
concentration required to insure effective fire extinguishment.
Possible Corrections
1. Increase pipe size for the hazard not getting enough
agent.
2. Increase nozzle orifice hole diameters for those serving
the hazard not getting enough agent.
3. Decrease the nozzle orifice hole diameters for those
serving the hazard getting too much agent.
4. Increase the agent quantity supplied to the hazard not
getting enough agent.

• Cylinder vapor run out prior to nozzle liquid run out.
– This may occur when a nozzle in the system is placed
hydraulically closer to the cylinder than other nozzles.
Possible Corrections
1. Re-route pipe leading to nozzle running out first or relocating
this nozzle to increase length of run (change nozzle type i.e.
180 degree versus 360 degree)
2. Decrease nozzle orifice hole diameter in the nozzle running
out first.
3. Increase nozzle orifice hold diameter in the nozzle(s) located
farther downstream.

• Minimum average nozzle pressure violation at
nozzle X.
– The nozzle pressure must be a minimum of 55 psig (3.8 bar)
for the nozzle to effectively disperse the agent and mix the
agent into the air in the target room.
Possible Corrections
1. Decrease nozzle orifice size(s).
2. Increase pipe size(s) upstream of nozzle.
3. Utilize a larger container.
4. Re-route piping leading to nozzle or relocating nozzle to decrease
length of run (change nozzle type i.e. 180 degree versus 360
degree).

• Maximum of 120 branches and 20 nozzles
exceeded.
– Input pipe network has more branches or nozzles
than are allowed by the software.

1. Divide the hazard into smaller, multiple systems.

– The flow split for the bull tee at the given node
exceeds the 75%/25% allowable split.
Possible Corrections
1. Adjust nozzle orifice size(s) to achieve allowable flow split.
2. Change tee type to achieve allowable flow split.
3. Change pipe sizes to alter the flow rate for the affected area.
4. Adjust agent quantity for the affected area.

• Minimum flow rate not exceeded.
– The minimum flow rate for the pipe size of the
given branch is not exceeded.
Possible Corrections
1. Reduce pipe size of identified branch.
2. Utilize a larger cylinder to reduce the discharge time and
increase flow rate.
3. Increase nozzle orifice sizes to reduce the discharge time
and increase the flow rate.

– The difference between liquid arrival times at two
of the nozzles exceeds the 1.0 second allowed
maximum.
Possible Corrections
1. Re-route pipe leading to nozzle arrived at first or relocating
this nozzle to increase length of pipe. Change nozzle type (i.e.
180 degree versus 360 degree) may help.
2. Re-route pipe leading to nozzle arrived at last or relocating
this nozzle to decrease length of pipe. Change nozzle type

flow may occur in that branch.
Possible Corrections
1. Check for branch too small to handle required flow error
for a branch feeding identified nozzle.
2. Increase feed pipe size(s) or reduce nozzle orifice area.
3. If more than one nozzle identified, check branches
feeding both.
