simplest form of verb (for example, be,
have, run, pretend, believe). In such
cases, the subjunctive part of the
sentence is often preceded by a phrase
like ´it is important/ urgent/ necessaryµ or
a verb like ´insistµ, ´demandµ, ´adviseµ
etc. (with or without the word ´thatµ)

hypothetical questions, use the past
tense form of the verb(or, when
appropriate, add ´couldµ, ´mightµ, or

V °or past tense wishes and hypothetical
situations, use the same form as the past
perfect tense (or, when appropriate,

hypothetical or supposed rather than
