Metro
Introduction
 1) The Delhi Metro is a rapid transit system
serving Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida in the
 National Capital Region of India.
 2) The network consists of six lines with a total length of 156 kilometers
with 132 stations of which 31 are underground.
 3) It has a combination of elevated, at-grade and underground lines and
uses both broad gauge and standard gauge rolling stock.
 4) Delhi Metro is being built and operated by the Delhi Metro Rail
Corporation Limited (DMRC).
 5) As of April 2010, DMRC operates around 130 trains daily between 6:00
and 23:00 running with an interval of 3 to 4.5 minutes between trains.
 6) The trains have four coaches but there are plans to shift to six coach
trains to increase capacity.
 7) The power output is supplied by 25-kilovolt, 50 Hertz alternating current
through overhead catenaries.
 8) The metro has an average daily ridership of 1.6 million commuters and,
as of August 2010, had carried over 1.25 billion commuters since its
inception.
 9) The dmrcprojects construction were started in 1998 and expected to
complete in 2021 in year of23 it is expected to cover 413.61 km.

SE I (1998-2005)
ne I ( Shahdara – Rithala) ~22 km:
ine I ( Shahdara – Rithala) was made operational for

• Shahdara – Tis Hazari : with effect from 25th Dec, 200
• Tis Hazari – Inderlok : with effect from 4rd Oct,
• Inderlok – Rithala : with effect from 1st April, 2
2) Line II ( Vishwavidyalaya – Central
Secretariat) ~11 km:
This line was made operational for
commercial services in three stages
Vishwavidyalaya – Kashmere Gate: with
effect from 20th December, 2004.
Kashmere Gate – Central Secretariat :
w.e.f 3rd July, 2005.
3) Line III ( Barakhamba – Dwarka Sub
City ) ~ 23 Km:
Barakhamba Road- Dwarka Section: w.e.f 31

PHASE II (2006-2010):
Phase II of the network comprises 128 km (80 mi) of
length and 79 stations, with the 1st section opened in June
2008 & completed in Oct 2010.
Phase-II envisaged covering 128-km that connected
Delhi with Noida, Gurgaon while Metro also reached
Jahangirpuri in north Delhi, Anand Vihar in east Delhi and
Nehru Place in south Delhi.
It was planned to be implemented at a cost of Rs 8,676
crore, but the revised estimates show that it has more than
doubled to Rs 18,894.36 crore. According to a review by
the ministry of statistics and programme implementation,
the project is being undertaken at an additional cost of Rs
10,218.36 crore. 
Phase II Network
Phase II of Delhi Metro Rail project consists of the following lines:

PHASE III ( 2011 - 2015 ):
Phase III, tentatively composed of six routes coveri

length of 108.5 km (67.4 mi) and tentatively

Palam, Najafgarh,
Ghazipur,
Noida Sector 62,
Gurgaon,
Faridabad.

1)RED LINE:

The red line was the first line of the metro to


be opened.

It was covering Rithala (west) to Dilshad


garden ( east).

This line cover the distance of 25.09 km.

There are 23 metro station in this line.

It is partly elevated and partly at grade.

It crosses Yamuna River between Shahdara and


Rithala

LLOW LINE:

was the second line and was the first underground

connects Jahangirpuri(north) to HUDA City Centre(sout

5 ) VIOLET LINE :

This is second standard-gauge corridor after the


Green Line.

This is 15 km (9.3 mi) long line.

It connects Sarita Vihar to Central Secretariat.

It is 9km overheaded and rest is under ground.

An interchange with the Yellow Line is available


at Central
Secretariat through an integrated concourse.

6 ) AIRPORT EXPRESS :
The Airport Express line runs for 22.7 km (14.1
mi).

It is New Delhi Railway Station to DwarkaSector


21,linking the Indira Gandhi International
Airport.

The line will be operated, by the Delhi Airport
Metro Express Pvt. Limited (DAMEL), a subsidiary
of Reliance Infrastructure, the
concessionaire of the line. 

Rolling stock is expected to consist of six-


coach trains having a maximum speed of 135 km/h
(84 mph).
IGI line Progress:
