On
Ethico-moral management
Work ethics: To know what it right or wrong in the
workplace and doing what's right -- this is in regard to
effects of products/services and in relationships with
stakeholders.

Ethical dilemmas faced by

managers:
are not simply a matter of
"Should Bob steal from Jack?"
Ethico-moral management
……...is about prioritizing moral values for the
workplace and ensuring behaviors are aligned with
those values -- it's values management.
Two broad areas in ethics
management
1. Managerial mischief
2. Moral mazes
Managerial mischief
Madsen and Shafritz, in their book "Essentials of
Business Ethics"
• Illegal, unethical practices of organizations
• Causes of the above practices
• Solutions to get rid of these practices
Moral mazes
The numerous ethical problems such as potential
conflicts of interest, wrongful use of resources.
Concern or focus
Traditional profit-centred free-market based business is
essentially only concerned with ”how much profit is
made”.
Ethical management concerned with “how profit is
made and how much profit is made”.
8 Guidelines for Managing Ethics
in an organization

1. Strive for fairness.
2. Consult widely - especially with critical people, and
especially beyond your close circle of biased and
friendly advisors etc.
3. Understand the long-term consequences.
4. Learn from history and previous situations.
5. The best way to handle ethical dilemmas is to avoid
their occurrence in the first place.
6. Check the law.
7. Resist the delusion and arrogance that power and
authority tends to foster.
8. Integrate ethics management with other management
practices.
Myths About Business Ethics

thing.
●Our organization is not in trouble with the law, so we're
ethical.

to the bad guys.

business ethics.
