2
Issues On 3G Wireless System

• High input fees for the 3G service licenses.

• Great differences in the licensing terms.
• Current high debt of many telecommunication companies,
making it more of a challenge to build the necessary
infrastructure for 3G.
• Health aspects of the effects of electromagnetic waves.
• Expense and bulk of 3G phones.
• Lack of coverage because it is still a new service.
• High prices of 3G mobile services in some countries.

3
What is 4G?
• The simple answer: 4G is the next major generation of mobile cellular systems,
to be deployed around the year 2010.
• The multiple choice answer: The “twelve views” of 4G

4G: Anytime, Anywhere Connection

• Also known as ‘Mobile Broadband Everywhere’.

• 4G is ‘MAGIC’
– Mobile Multimedia Communication
– Anywhere, Anytime with Anyone
– Global Mobility Support
– Integrated Wireless Solution
– Customized Personal Service
• According to 4G Mobile Forum, over $400 billion has
been invested in 4G mobile projects.
• In India, communication Minister has announced a
national centre of excellence to work in 4G arena.

5
4G: Data Rate Facts

• Transmission at 20 Mbps.
• 2000 times faster than mobile data rates.
• 10 times faster than top transmission rates
planned in final build out of 3G broadband
mobile.
• 10-20 times faster than standard ADSL services.

6
4G Wireless System

• 4G is a research item for next-generation wide-area cellular radio,

where you have 1G, 2G, 3G and then 4G [and 5G].
• 4G is a conceptual framework and a discussion point to address future
needs of a high speed wireless network.
• It offers both cellular and broadband multimedia services everywhere.
• Expected to emerge around 2010 – 2015.
• 4G should be able to provide very smooth global roaming ubiquitously
with lower cost.
• Theoretically, 4G is set to deliver 100 Mbps to a roaming mobile device
globally, and up to 1 Gbps to a stationary device. With this in mind, it
allows for video conferencing, streaming picture perfect video (i.e.
telemedicine, tele-geo processing application etc.)

9
4G Scenario

• 4G is still in a formative stage (commercial 2012).

• 4G system bandwidth between 20 and 100 MHz (paired or
unpaired).
• ITU Working Group 8F beginning to consider the
requirements and spectrum needs.
• Companies developing 4G technology:-
– Cellular Phone Companies: Alcatel, Nortel, Motorola,
Huawei.
– IT Companies: Hughes, HP, LG Electronics etc.

CONCLUSION

• 4G technology is projecting towards a single global

standard that can be embraced worldwide with integration
with the help of IPV6.
• It will provide REAL WIRELESS WORLD.
• Future 4G wireless networks will need to support diverse
IP multimedia applications to allow sharing of resources
among multiple users.
• It promises to fulfill the goal of personal computing and
communication providing higher data rates everywhere
over a wireless network.
• 4G is expected to be launched by 2012.
