INTRODUCTION TO
C.S.R.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR), also known as corporate responsibility,
corporate citizenship, responsible business, sustainable responsible business
(SRB), or corporate social performance integrated into a business model.

It is doing something voluntarily for social development.

Socially responsible companies should consider various issues, from the


organization of the firm to building relationships with the community.

The C.S.R ,which was a voluntary initiative by some companies has turned
into a legal initiative by the government making it mandatory for all the
companies.

EVOLUTION OF C.S.R IN
INDIA.
The term C.S.R came into common use in the early 1970s,after many
multinational companies were formed.

Another reason fuelling the adoption of C.S.R. was the state of Indian
society.

Corporate like Tata group, Aditya Birla group and Indian oil
corporation have adopted C.S.R.

Corporate now in India have the expertise, strategic thinking,


manpower and money to facilitate social change.

TATA STEEL.
TATA STEEL, , a company of Tata group founded by Jamshedji Tata in 1868.

TATA STEEL, formerly known as TISCO and Tata Iron and Steel Company
Limited, is the world's seventh largest steel company[4], with an annual crude steel
capacity of 31 million tonnes

Its main plant is located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and its registered office is in
Mumbai.

Its products and services include hot and cold rolled coils and sheets, tubes,
construction bars, forging quality steel, rods, structurals, strips and bearings, steel
plant and material handling equipment, Ferro alloys and other minerals, software for
process controls and cargo handling services.

•Tata steel believes that “the primary purpose of a business is to improve the
quality of life of people .Tata steel will volunteer its resources to the extent
that it can reasonably afford, to sustain and improve a healthy and
prosperous environment and to improve the quality of life of the people of
the areas in which it operates”.
•Tata steel is one of the most admired companies by stakeholders for their
C.S.R initiatives.
•The company believes in sharing wealth to diminish disparities and discharge
its overall social responsibilities to the community and society at large.

1) Guided by Legacy :
The Tata steel is guided by the Principle of Trusteeship and the conviction that
Free Enterprise, in order to thrive, must serve the needs of society

2) Need for Proactive Stance :


Equally, Tata steel believes in being proactive in achieving a balance between
business growth and social and environment related needs
 
3) Need to go beyond Compliance :
Whether in pursuing its business growth or meeting its responsibilities, Tata steel’s
intent is to contribute by doing the right thing's against merely being compliant by
³not doing the wrong things´

4) Boost to Brand Image :
In a global syndicated study conducted by TNS it was evident that general
public’s perception of a company’s conduct is a strong reflection of the
overall market sentiment towards that company.

5) Top Management Involvement :


The Top Management that is the Board of Directors, MD of the company
should be involved in C.S.R responsibilities.

6) Public Image Building :


According to Tata steel, if a company undertakes C.S.R activities, it improves
the public image of the company.

TATA STEEL.
•Jamshedji Irani, Director of Tata Sons Ltd, says, "The Tata credo is that 'give back to the
people what you have earned from them.”
So from the very inception, Jamshedji Tata and his family have been following this
principle.

•Tata steel has instituted the Tata Council for Community Initiatives TCCI, a central
body that acts as a facilitator to the Tata’s CSR activities .

•C.S.R is implemented.

•The common approach of Tata steel to community development ensures that every activity
or project is checked out on certain important aspects of development and values the group
collectively.

C.S.R PROGRAMME FOR
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT.
 Empowering the women folk has been a
thrust area for Corporate Sustainability
Services division of TATA Steel.

 TATA Steel jointly inaugurated two


vocational training modules at the jail
premises ,Ghadigh for women inmates.

 The women inmates will now undergo


training on jewellery making and
beautician courses.

 TATA Steel on principal has agreed to bear


the entire expenses for the training.
TATA STEEL TAKES C.S.R
TO THE SILVER SCREEN.
Hello Zindagi, a movie venture supported by Tata Steel and Dhamra Port
Company Ltd, which released on March 5, highlights the sensitive issue of
the conservation of Olive Ridley turtles in the story.

A Tata Steel spokesperson said the association with Hello Zindagi is a part
of Tata Steel's corporate social responsibility.
