Destiny Q & A

Question:
How do I see the history of a book? Who has signed it out in the last
year. This would be used when I find a damaged book.

Answer:
Go to Circulation | Copy Status. Scan the books barcode or type in
the barcode number. You will be able to view who currently has the
book checked out and who has the book previously from this screen.
If you would like to see the history of this copy, then select View
Status. This will display ALL the patrons that have ever checked out
this copy, the date the copy was checked out, the due date, and the
date the copy was checked in.

Destiny Q & A

Question:
In circulation-beep sound is the same even if you are not scanning (message box
pops up)

Answer:
There are two sounds that you need to pay attention to when scanning in
Circulation Desk--the sound from the scanner and the sound from the computer.
The sound from the scanner only tells you that the barcode was accepted by the
scanner, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that Destiny has recognized the scan.
Suggestions:
Sometimes there are no speakers at the Circulation Desk. Please make certain
you have speakers and the volume is turned up. Go to Back Office | Site
Configuration | Circulation. Make certain you are familiar with the sounds that
are setup in the system.
You also have the option to disable the sound on the scanner and relay on the
sound from the computer for a successful barcode scan. (See help for scan sheets
to disable beeper volume for your scanner type)

Question:
How to setup the Destiny home page?

Answer:
You must have access level permission enabled to Edit Home page
• Title field - The Title field is straight text and will not allow you to use
HTML to change the font, color, size, etc.
• Body field − The Body field needs to be written in HTML. You can use an
HTML editor, such as Dreamweaver, to create the information, and then
copy into this field on the Edit Introductory Text page.
• Groups - are a way you can organize any links you would like display on
the Home page.
• Links - are the URLs to the web pages you would like to display.

Destiny Q & A

Question:
When you do a search in check out, under circulation, it can get a little
confusing. Looking for tips regarding what the Go button does, compared
with Find Patron or Find Copy
Answer:
The Go, Find Patron, and Find copy buttons are used when typing in
barcodes or names.
Find Patron searches the patron indexes
Find Copy searches the copy indexes
Go assumes next step and searches both indexes (for example: if you
search for 1000 and your database has both a patron with barcode 1000
and a book with 1000 in either the title or copy barcode, then depending
on what the “next step” would be in circulation flow is what information is
displayed.)

Destiny Q & A

Question:
How to make student searches easier in spite of spelling challenges….
Answer:
If you misspell a search word, or Destiny cannot find your word, Destiny
asks you, Did you mean…?. If Destiny's word is correct—if it's the word
you want—click the word to see the search results. If not, click Refine
your search and try searching again. In Destiny Quest simply conduct a
new search.
Example:
• If you type dinasors, Destiny asks you, Did you mean "dinosaurs"?
• Click dinosaurs if that's the word you meant to enter.
If not, click Refine your search and try your search again. In Destiny
Quest simply conduct a new search.

Note: Did you mean searching only occurs when conducting a keyword
search in Destiny Classic.

Question:
WebPath Express versus Destiny Quest Globe. Same? Seems to work
better if search for books first, then click globe.
Answer:
In Destiny Quest, you must search for book first and then click on the
globe to see your WebPath Express results. You can then narrow your
results by grade level, topic, or domain.

Destiny Q & A

Question:
How to create reports on specific holdings? i.e. Playaways, DVDs, Need
report to automatically be updated when materials are added.
Answer:
The report you select will be depend on how you identify this material
within your collection.
If you have these identified by separate call number prefixes, then you
can run the Collection Statistics – Summary Report.
If you have these identified by material type, then you can create a
custom report using Report Builder that would display all the titles in a
certain material type.

Destiny Q & A

Question:
When we print the spine labels for the books why does it have to have the
words c.1, c.2, and c.3 on them?
Answer:
The only spine labels that get a c. 1, c.2, etc. are the copy records that
actually have a "1" or “2” in the Copy Number field.  You may have had
copy numbers on your old data and it was brought over during the
conversion.

Destiny Q & A

Question:
Unique barcodes for teacher patrons entered in various buildings. Is there
a compilation report to show unused patrons barcodes for the whole
district?
Answer:
There is not currently a report within Destiny to provide you a list of all
unused patron barcodes in the district; however you could create a
custom report in Report Builder that displays all the used patron
barcodes within the district for faculty. Your unused would be the ranges
that are not displayed.

Destiny Q & A

Question:
Please tell me more about student empowerment and having students
write book reviews. How long can their reviews be posted and will those
reviews appear on Destiny Quest as well as regular OPAC?
Answer:
• Only students with the appropriate permissions can review titles and,
optionally, enter comments and include digital content.
• You can give Guests (patrons that don't log in to Destiny) permission to
rate titles from 1 to 5, but not to add comments or add digital content.
• You can also give faculty members the ability to submit comments or
upload digital content with reviews without requiring approval. (See
“Managing Book Reviews” in Destiny Help)
• Reviews are displayed in both Destiny Quest and Destiny Classic OPACS
• Reviews are available until they are deleted. To batch delete reviews to
go to Catalog | Update Titles | Delete Reviews

Destiny Q & A

Question:
How do I see which resource list a book is in?
Answer:
In Destiny Classic: You will note at the top right on the screen Selected
List:

In Destiny Quest: It will list the name of the resource list right above the
Drag + Drop icon.

Note: Destiny Quest doesn’t currently allow the use of more than one
resource list. Destiny Quest defaults to the last resource list used. If the
patron needs to select a different resource list, they must exit Destiny
Quest.

Destiny Q & A

Question:
I would like to know more about merging records. What information transfers over?
Answer:
The merge process affects your database in the following ways:
• It does not merge or alter any information in the title records. (one exception)
It changes the association of copies from one title record to another.
• Any local tags in the "other title records" are added to the "best title". If any of these additions
are duplicates of those already in the "best title", the tags are merged. This includes the
following tags:
– 521
– 526
– 590-599
– 658
– 690-699 (including site-specific subjects—those with Destiny(<site ID>) in subfield _5)
– 790-799
– 856
– 900-939
– 941-999
• After merging the copies onto one title record, the process permanently deletes the other title
records.
• The copy records retain any checkout information, fines, holds, or reserves that they had
before the merge.

Interlibrary Loan procedures, please review. We are very confused? The
process seems to vary. Also can you please discuss whether or not to
use “Unique Barcodes” for our collections starting now?

LM Interlibrary loan process.
