MODULAR

TREATMENT
SYSTEM OF GAS
OVERVIEW

 Petroextract S.A. with an innovative vision

has developed this project that focuses on
harnessing the gas from oil producing wells.

 The gas obtained from this process is a clean

gas, with a high octane number which may
be used in internal combustion engines.
OVERVIEW

 For this reason we have developed a bi-fuel

system that enables the operation of a diesel
engine replacing between 40% and 70% of
diesel by appropriate pretreated gas, as
required by engine power.
OVERVIEW
The composition of gas entering the plant is a
function of chromatographic analysis thereof
which essentially contains:

 Methane
• Heptane
 Ethane • Heavy hydrocarbons
 Propane • Nitrogen
 Iso - butane • Carbon dioxide
 N - butane • Hydrogen sulfide
 Iso - pentane • Water vapor
 N - pentane
 Hexane

MODULAR TREATMENT SYSTEM OF GAS

 The MTSG can be transported; installed close to the engine

area, connected to the gas line out of separators and treat
the gas, then connecting to the internal combustion engines
to supply them with fuel gas and allow the bi-fuel system to
operate.

 The recovered condensate back into the process of the

station.
MSTG PROCESS DESCRIPTION

 The process is divided into three stages described

below:
CONDENSATION
Liquid separation process

1º STAGE

 At this stage, the amount of liquids associated with the gas

are separated by putting them in contact with the vertical
vessel (separator).

 The size of the separator will depend on the volume of the

gas to be treated, the required period of residence, its
interior design and the amount of liquid to extract.
CONDENSATION

Gasoline Recovery

 At the first separator liquid streams that are associated

with gas are removed, as well as heavy hydrocarbons
such as C6, C7, C8, and liquid water.

 In a second instance, the gas passes to a heat exchanger

(Chiller A) to undergo a cooling process at known
pressures, thus lowers the temperature of gas to get the
dew point temperature for both water and pentanes that
are found in vapor form, achieving in this way they can
condense and separate from the gas as a liquid phase
CONDENSATION

Propane and butane recovery

2º STAGE

 In this second stage, the gas that comes from the second
separator is directed to another heat exchanger (Chiller B) to
decrease the temperature and reach the dew point for
propane and butane, so as they can be condensate and
separate from the gas through a separator.

 All this cooling process is governed by condensing units (UC

A / B / C / D) using ecological refrigerant, they allow us to
achieve the parameters we need in the process.
GAS SWEETENING

3º STAGE

 Gas sweetening is a term used to explain the process

which removes components that make this gas is acidic
GAS SWEETENING

 The amount used for each of the molecular sieves was

calculated from data of the chromatography which indicates
the percentage of acid gases entering.

 The molecular sieves used are:

 Zeolite: remove carbon dioxide (CO2)

 Activated alumina: remove hydrogen sulfide (H2S)
