Pi Delta Psi Fraternity, Inc.

General Interest Meeting 2011

An overview of the fraternity and
the rush process
What is Pi Delta Psi?
• Pi Delta Psi is the Only Asian Cultural Fraternity on
campus.
– If any other fraternity claims they are Asian Cultural, they are
lying to you. We are the only fraternity that actively
participates, holds, and attends cultural events on campus and
out of state.
– This is important for your RESUME!
– Some events we hold:
• Asian Spring Festival
• Asian Field Day
• Monthly Cultural Awareness events
• And the list goes on…
Cultural
• We have also helped bring many National
recognized conferences, events to Umass
– ECAASU: East Coast Asian American Student
Union
• ECAASU is the largest inter-collegiate Asian American
student network in the nation. Each year, over 1000
students attend the annual conference to learn and
create change.
– Asian Night, a annual event with cultural dances,
performances, and songs.
Cultural

• We are the MOST and ONLY culturally active

fraternity on campus.
– We hold key positions in many organizations:
• President in MGC Council: Kim Ham
• AASA
• KSA
• TSA
• YKCC
– We've had former high ranking board members of all those
organizations
• President of AASA: Tin Huynh
• CSA
Your Resume
• What else does PI do that can help your
resume?
– Community Service. We participate in tons of
community service (almost as much as our cultural
events)
• March for Dimes
• Relay for Life
• Soup Kitchens
• Winterfest
• And other various acts to help our campus / community!
Your Resume
• What else does PI do that can help your resume?
– You have hands on experience with many leadership
positions both in and out of the fraternity.
– You can help get involved with causes you
personally are interested in, and of course lead
different areas of the fraternity itself.
• But a fraternity can provide much more for both
your resume and college experience!
Why Pi Delta Psi?
• So why should you pick Pi Delta Psi over any other
fraternity, or in general?
• First, We continue to be the fastest growing fraternity since
1994 (since our inception, for the past 16 years, etc).
– 10 chapters in the first 5 years! And still growing!
• There are several areas in which Pi Delta Psi can enrich
your experience here at Umass and beyond.
– Networking
– Resources
– Social Events
– Cultural Involvement
Networking
• How can a Fraternity help you Network?
– First, brotherhood, higher than any friendship.
More info. in a moment.
– You can receive advice from upperclassmen in the
fraternity about housing, courses, general
information.
– Housing, many upperclassmen brothers can pull
you into highly competitive housing such as North
Apartments or Puffton Apartments.
Networking
• How can a Fraternity help you Network?
– The fraternity will enable you to meet tons of
girls. Sorority girls, fraternity friends, girls that
frequent each of our parties from schools all over
the east coast and of course UMass!
– The fraternity frequently does road trips for
social, fraternity, and/or cultural events. You will
have numerous chances to see other schools, meet
even more people, and just have fun.
Partying
• Partying is another crucial aspect to networking.
• Why go searching UMass every weekend for a decent
party ... When you can secure your weekend fun.
• When you join PI, you are not just attending a party, you ARE
the party.
• We frequently have private parties for brothers and other
select individuals
• We also hold mixers to meet / party with girls from different
sororities.
• We hold some of the best, if not the best parties in the Asian
Community.
Brotherhood vs. Friendship?

• Why is brotherhood better than friendship?

– Because we work closely during pledging, at all our
events, and of course party frequently together.
– We all have very high expectations of each other,
and unlike friendship we are a team, and will go out
of our way to help a brother in need.
– So we all know each other very well, but what
makes it above friendship is the resources available
to you through the brotherhood.
Resources
• Academics
– The brotherhood has substantial access to old tests,
quizzes, homework, and study guides for many classes.
– Textbooks for classes, you can usually just borrow them
or have them, like I said, its a brotherhood not a friendship
– Tutoring / general help ... Many brothers would not mind
helping you in a subject or at least guiding you to the right
place to find help
– Our fraternity has the highest cumulative GPA out of all
multi cultural fraternities or sororities.
Resources
• House
– You have your own FRATERNITY HOUSE.
– Meaning you can come over as you please,
hopefully house people are awake haha
• you can come chill anytime, house people would be more
than happy as long as they arent working.
• There are many resources in the house, video game
systems, and other various activities...
• And of course you can hang out with brothers
both on campus and off campus apartments.
So What Is Rush?
• Rush is a no-obligation time period where you
can meet the brothers of our fraternity.
• Rush gives you the opportunity to find out
more about us as individuals and as a
organization to ensure it aligns with your
goals as an individual.
• Basically, just a time to have fun, and get a
preview of brotherhood.
What is Hazing?
Hazing
• None of these search results have been altered,
all of these fraternities or sororities have a
chapter here on campus.
• I invite you to do a similar search, especially
on our organization. You wont find anything
because we DO NOT haze.
So What’s Next?
• If you are interested in joining Pi Delta Psi, attend
as many events as you can so brothers can see your
interest and get to know you well.
• You will schedule an interview, basic questions,
nothing you need to study for.
• After that the brothers will discuss each rush, and if
you are fit for the brotherhood you will receive a bid.
• A bid will allow you to pledge for Pi Delta Psi
fraternity. More about pledging at a later time.
