PTSD is an anxiety disorder that usually
develops after a person is exposed to an event
that causes psychological trauma such as:
6Mombat
6Physical or sexual abuse
6Serious accidents
6Natural disasters
6Torture

Persistent thoughts and ³flashbacks´ of the event
Avoiding places , events or objects that remind
them of the event.
Feeling emotionally numb
Feelings of strong guilt, depression or worry
Being easily startled
Feeling tense or ³on edge´
Having difficulty sleeping
Having angry outbursts
Diagnostic criteria for PTSD include a history of
exposure to a traumatic event meeting two
criteria and symptoms from each of three
symptom clusters: intrusive recollections,
avoidant/numbing symptoms, and hyper-
arousal symptoms. A fifth criterion concerns
duration of symptoms and a sixth assesses
functioning.
