PSU(Power Supply Unit)

220V AC from the mains cord is passed to primary

winding of the transformer.
It is a step down transformer and converts it into a 12V
AC.
This 12V AC is further given to a 4-diode bridge rectifier.
Finally 12V,-12V,5V,12V,0V,0V are sent to the MPEG via
a 6 pin connector.
+12V for IC1389,-12V for sound IC and +5 V Disc
operation.
MPEG

Main component of a DVD player.

It contains three IC’s –
MT 1389- Main IC
SW 5888- Motor Driver IC
W 9468 - EPROM
It is connected to the PSU via a 6 pin connector.
A 24 pin FFC(Fast Forward Connector) connects the MPEG to motor of the loader. It
has 4 pins that contains 3V each and that makes a total of 12V which drives the motor
of OPU.
A 6pin connector connects the MPEG to FPCB which needs a supply of +5V for the
LED display.
Another connector giving a supply of +3V for the door to open and close. And another
connector for its motor.
Loader-Optical Reading
FPCB

It has a 30pin IC that controls the display, the

sensor , USB.
It is connected via a connector.
The connector supplies 5V,5V,3V,0V,0V which goes to
various places like the display working of USB etc.
Various Faults

Switch no work
USB no read
LED permanent glow

MPEG Technologies

 MPEG-1 - slightly better than VHS quality

- movies compressed to be put in CD-ROMs (700 Mb)
- used in VCD, CD-I, etc.

 MPEG-2 - high quality video (DVD quality)

- less compression, which means more data
- need large capacity DVD-ROMs for movies (4.7–17 Gb)
- only 15 mts of MPEG-2 video can be put in a CD-ROM
- used in DVD-video, digital broadcasting, etc.

 MPEG-4 - a full resolution MPEG-4 movie can be put in a CD-ROM
- high quality at very low bit-rates
- ideal for web-video
MPEG 4

 the advanced compression technology enables distribution of content and

services of high-definition quality in low-bandwidth across broadcast,
broadband, wireless & packaged media

 a more aggressive compression for multimedia streams that enable DVD-

like movie quality, yet maintaining smaller file size

 can provide MPEG-2 quality picture at 1/11 of it’s size

 analogue movies can be converted to MPEG-4 format using various codec

(coding/decoding) systems like DivX, Xvid

 MPEG-4 files can be downloaded from internet to CD-ROMs and played

back in DVD players which support MPEG-4 playback
MP3

Stands for ‘MPEG 1, Audio Layer 3’

Revolutionary compression technology by which

large digital audio files can be compressed to almost
10 times without radically degrading the quality.

Popular in Web and PC audio file storage is now

getting popular in consumer audio devices too.
DivX

 a collection of ripping tools for video compression and decoder, based on

MPEG-4, developed by DivX Networks. Inc.

 it can shrink huge digital video to sizes small enough to be transported

over the internet, while maintaining high visual quality

 can compress DVD quality video at 10-20 % of original MPEG-2 file size

 DVD quality video from CDs via DVD players with DivX decoder.

 high quality A/V transfers from web, movie-cameras, computers, etc

 what MP3 did to audio, DivX does to video

DivX

 record favourite TV programs (sports, soaps, movies, etc)

 archive VHS recordings in CD-ROMs

 download high quality movies from web

- no more noisy, low resolution & stamp sized video

 transfer recordings from the digital movie camera

 DVD movies can be copied on to CDs

Multi-Channel Sound System
Dolby Pro Logic

 A analog surround sound encoding/decoding

technique by the Dolby laboratories.

 Provides a multi-dimensional surround sound with a

source of two channel (left & right channel ).

 Provides 4 channel (Left, Centre, Right, Rear mono

left & right) .

 Dolby pro logic reproduction is possible in stereo

audio tapes & CDs
Dolby Pro Logic II

• A digital surround sound encoding/decoding technique by the Dolby

laboratories.

• Provides a multi-dimensional surround sound with a source of two channel

(left & right channel ).

• Provides 5.1 channel (Left, Centre, Right, Rear left , Right surround & Sub
woofer) .

• Dolby pro logic II is possible in audio CD & DVDs

Progressive Scan

The two fields (odd & even line fields) of a frame in a

conventional TV picture are displayed together in
one frame.

Results in a razor sharp picture performance

especially when seen on Large screens.
Progressive Scan

• In Progressive Scan, A&B fields are

scanned continuously at a time ( single
frame )

•In the end we get a Razor sharp picture

PROGRESSIVE SCAN
High Definition JPEG

With High Resolution JPEG playback, you can show

up to 2 Megapixel resolution on your Flat TV (FTV).
Now you can view your digital pictures in their true
resolution, without loss of quality or details.
Rather than downscaling the image to Standard
Definition resolution (SD, 0.4 Megapixel) and
upscaling it to HD (1080i, 2 Megapixel), the
resolution is maintained throughout the chain at 2
Megapixel. This ensures no loss of quality or details.
High-Speed USB 2.0 Link

The Universal Serial Bus or USB is

a protocol standard that is
conveniently used to link PCs,
peripherals and consumer
electronic equipment. Hi-Speed
USB devices have a data transfer
rate of up to 480 Mbps - up from
the 12 Mbps in original USB ones.
With Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Link, all
you have to do is plug in your USB
device, select the movie, music or
photo and play away.
HDMI

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia

Interface) is a compact audio/video
interface for transmitting
uncompressed digital data.

• High quality digital video

• High quality digital audio

• Control connectivity
