as a mode of safe transport/journey.

INTRODUCTION
 INDIAN RAILWAYS, the premier transport organization of
the country is the largest rail network in Asia and the world's
second largest under one management.

 Indian Railways has more than 64,015 km of track and


7,083 stations. It has the world's fourth largest railway
network after those of the United States, Russia and China.

 46% of the total track km was electrified on 31 March 2010.

 Indian Railway is the best Railway of the world. But there are some
problem in the Railway :

 It Is not fully computerized

 Only the big cities are computerized while the rural areas are still left.

 There is the signal problem in the Railway. Somewhere it automatic


and some where it is manual.
 Indian Railway is using the ACD which is help full to prevent the
accident.

 Naxal’s are also responsible for the Rail accident.

 Railway Government is using the protoline engine ahead the train to


prevent the rail accident.

 GRP & RPF is lacking behind the technology to fight with the naxal’s.

 The meter gauge & narrow gauge is converting to the broad gauge.
 In some place single line is also converting to the double line.
 Railway system is divided in three main system:-
 Automatic block system
 Block system
 One train system
 Mobile phone’s are given to the driver and the guard in the place of
walky- talky.
 Psychology test of the driver is conducted in the simulator room.

 The company focuses on safety while manufacturing the metro train.

 It is using high quality of raw material such as (Floor plate) imported


from Germany.

 It is using the ROBOT purchased from Germany to do the work


efficiently and effectively for the safety purpose.

 It is using the electromechanical system (MATRAC) for power saving


and pressure control of the train.

 There are 1700 check point in the company.

 62% of the accidents have been caused due to failure of Railway staff.

 22% have been caused due to failure of other than Railway staff.

 8% contribution is the failure of equipments.

 3% contribution is of sabotage.

 5 % has been contributed by miscellaneous reasons.

RAILWAY MINISTERY PLANS FOR THE YEAR
2011-12
 Highest ever Plan outlay of Rs. 57, 630 crore proposed for Railways.

 Rs. 9,583 crore provided for new lines.

 1300 km new lines, 867 km doubling of lines and 1017 km gauge


conversion targeted in 2011-12.

 236 more stations to be upgraded as Adarsh Stations.

 Feasibility study to raise speed of passenger trains to 160-200 kmph to


be undertaken.
 GPS Based 'Fog Safe' Device to be deployed.

 All India Security Help line on a single number set up.

 Recruitment for 1.75 lakh vacancies of Group 'C' and 'D' including to
fill up backlog of SC/ST initiated, 16,000 ex-servicemen to be
inducted by March 2011.

 The railway department has requested for Rs 39,600 crore as gross


budgetary support in 2011 as compared to the Rs 15,875 crore that it
received in the 2010 budget.
 The 2011 railway budget has also given importance to safety and
security issues like improving the signaling system, train protection
warning system (TPWS) and installing safety related technology like
Anti-collision devices (ACD)
SUGGESTION
 Communication network from the head quarter to the train must be
more effective and efficient.

 There must be Sensors on tracks so that if there are two train on the
same track then the immediate warning must be received by the by the
driver and the guard.

 mostly in the winter season the driver takes ALCOHOL in the train
which resulted to the accident. So such type of activities must be
avoided.

 The HR Dept. of railway realizes that responsibilities and the work


should be given according the capability of the employee.
 Automatic fire & smoke detection system should be introduced in
each & every train.

 Proper training to the employee.

 Accident relief medical equipment.

 Proper Communication between Drivers and Guards and Station
