Why young people
The hundreds of young people living
In the Island are most significant and
unutilized resource that can make an important
contribution to conservation initiatives.

Many of them are involved in working activities related to

resource-based livelihoods (fishing, farming, and forestry).
Thus involving these vast numbers of youth which also will be
the future stakeholders is important.

Ten young people from fishermen community and ten young

people from senior highs schools and universities were selected
to join “Buddies of Marine Life”
Why raising awareness
Before people can engage in environmental programs,
they need to be aware of the phenomenon
and its impact on their wellbeing, perceive the
seriousness of the problem, and develop positive
attitude towards it (Bayard and Jolly, 2007).

Therefore, raising youth awareness and attitude are

essential steps to exploring, analyzing, and resolving
coral reefs degradation problem.
