At the end of this course, the student
should be able to:-
a) Acquire the knowledge on the
principle and application of mechanical
and electrical system.
b) Acquire the knowledge and familiar
with mechanical and electrical
equipment inside buildings.

d) Appreciate the IEE regulation and
uniform Building by Law related to
mechanical and electrical requirement.

Course Description
 This subject prepares the knowledge and
understanding of the principle in electrical
and mechanical to civil engineering student.
 The syllabus emphasis on studying electrical
system and mechanical equipment installed in
the various building.
 Student will be given an exposure on system
operation and maintenance.
 Electrical installation act and uniform building
by law are also introduced to the student
Syllabus
 1.Electrical Engineering Practice
-Supply System and Distribution. - Generation, transmission and
distribution of electrical supply. Single phase and three phase,star-delta
connection and balanced three phase. - Real, Apparent and Reaction
power in AC system. - Power factor, improvement and its relationship
to the tariff. Simple example of single phase installation in the building.
-Electrical Installation. - Electrical cable, rating, type and installation
method. - Single phase and three phase electrical schematics diagram
and it’s device. - Simple design by using diversity factor and estimation
method. - The function of protection devices inclusive of ELCB, MCCB,
Main Switch and Fuse. - Appreciation of IEE Regulation. -Electrical
Machines. - Introduction to electrical machines, DC motor and
transformer. Equivalent circuit and simple calculation of various type
DC motor. -Illumination. - Basic Illumination theory and effect to the
lighting design. -Power Rectification. - Electronic component involved
and simple circuit and calculation.

 2.Mechanical Engineering Practice-Air Conditioning System and
Ventilation. - Natural and mechanical ventilation and the important of
ventilation system. - Basic principle of air conditioning and
understanding of relative humidity by using psychrometric chart. -
Various type of air conditioning system and the difference between air
cooled and water cooled. -Fire Fighting. - Fire fighting approach and
the equipment involved. - Portable fire and fixed fire alarm system. -
Fire alarm system and various type of detection devices. - Appreciation
of Uniform Building by Law and “Akta Perkhidmatan dan Peraturan
Bomba” -Lift and Escalator - Operation of lift and escalator. The
function and it’s application. -Cold Water, Hot Water and Sanitary
Plumbing. - Cold water and hot water system. - Sanitary system and
various type of material used. -Various type of pumps, compressor,
blowers and turbine -Building Automation and Control. - Introduction
and basic principle of building automation and control.
