HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT IDENTIFYING
THIS PROBLEM?

• This problem was identified due to the high

number of cases reported in the area, that is


the Kabwe Municipality by the local
community leadership, ZNWL , Young
Women Christian Association (YWCA) and
women’s organisation.

• This issue is important as violence infringes

human’s rights to participate in leadership,


entrepreneurship and contribute positively
to development. As a result the majority of
women shun away from leadership positions
and active community participation like
Resident Development Committees (RDC)

• We organize women to participation in women’s


activities like the Women’s Day, 16 Days of
Activism against Gender Violence, keep Zambia
Clean Campaign, heroes’ Day (celebrating
women heroes), Youth Day , World AIDS day,
International Day for the disabled, International
Women’s Rights Day.

• The Life span of the project is 6 months

• The key target for community work are all

members of the community.The trainings are


conducted with women and men to gain
knowledge on the issues and support.
• Women and men are equally involved but
women’s projects are initiated and led by
women with the involvement of men so that
they serves as training opportunities in
leadership

• Financial: CDF is provided to all the local authorities

Development, Women’s project fund under
GIDD,CEEC which we advocated to have simpler
and easier conditions for our local women, Material
support. ZCCM IH built market stalls for local women
to conduct business in a safe, clean and hygienic
environment.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

• The council assigns officers in the DPHSS to conduct

regular assessment meetings with women’s groups,


various community groups, projects and receive
reports and minutes on activities in line with actions
plans. This enables all projects to have a community
ownership and be sustainable and increases
accountability. Evaluation meeting are conducted.

• Increased community awareness on gender violence

Enforces the National Gender Policy in
all activities with community with the help of
organisations that litigate and support
women in the community.

• Projects being run in the community are


effective due to the participatory approach.
This involves the beneficiaries (women, men
and youth) in planning, development and
implementation of the projects. This ensures
ownership and sustainability. Monitoring and
accountability are also ensured to involvement
of local leaders.

• The main lesson learnt from these activities is

the involvement of beneficiaries in planning


and implementation of projects in the
community as well as involvement of local
leaders. Programs are more effective and
owned by the community which in turn enables
them to be issue based and long term
sustainability.
