SIPOC
SIPOC is an acronym standing for
S = Supplier(s)
I = Input(s)
P = Process
O = Output(s)
C = Customer(s)

A SIPOC Diagram is a visual representation of a high-level

process map; including suppliers & inputs into the process
and outputs & customers of the process.

Visually communicates the scope of a project

How Can SIPOC Be Used?
SIPOC Diagrams help a team and its sponsor(s) agree
on project boundaries and scope
A SIPOC helps teams verify that
inputs match outputs of upstream processes
outputs match inputs of downstream processes
SIPOC is introduced in the Define phase of the project

How SIPOC Works

Suppliers Inputs Process Outputs Customers

Key point on forming a team to develop a SIPOC Diagram: Involve

a cross-section of those who work with the process to create the
diagram. No single person will have all the process knowledge one
needs. J.M.Pant +919811030273, jm.pant@gmail.com

Prepare a SIPOC diagram for defining a problem.
Meet in groups, brainstorm, and make the SIPOC diagram in
a flip chart.
Consider only the highest level process, and 4 to 5 steps or
sub-processes of that process
1. Delay in getting home loans –promise 10 days, actual 90 days
2. Waiting for getting seat in a restaurant for more than 15
minutes
3. Students not using library- present 5% usage, desired 60%
4. Poor English speaking skills- over 90% students are weak
creating employment problems
5. Reducing lead time for procurement from 120 days to 10 days
