V The goal of a case study is to offer new variables and questions for
further research.
V Case studies are not a new form of research; naturalistic inquiry was the
primary research tool until the development of the scientific method.
V The fields of sociology and anthropology are credited with the primary
shaping of the concept as we know it today.
V The 1950ǯs marked the dawning of a new era in case study research,
namely that of the utilization of the case study as a teaching method.
V Under the more generalized category of case study exist several
subdivisions, each of which is custom selected for use depending
upon the goals and/or objectives of the investigator. They include:
