Introduction to Rotor Spinning

Open end spinning or open-end spinning is a technology for

creating yarn without using a spindle. It was invented and
developed in Czechoslovakia in Výzkumný ústav
bavlnářský / Cotton Researching Institute in Ústí nad Orlicí
in the year 1963.
There very few companies which can manufacture yarn
using this process, owing to it’s technical complexity. A lot of
research & development has been done to increase
productivity by them.
The disadvantages of using Rotor spinning can be improved
by combining staple fibers with a continuous filament yarn
in the rotor spinning process

Advantages Disadvantages

1. High yarn output rate 1. Low breaking

2. Reduced production strength
cost 2. Wrapper fibres of
3. Increased bulkiness yarn surfaces
4. Improved evenness of 3. Cloth made from
the resultant yarn rotor spinning has
lower wear resistance
Rotor spinning machine
The Process in brief
Filament yarn is fed from a supply
bobbin by means of a tension device
and guide to the filament feed
rollers.

Drawn into the rotor freely by

suction.

Filament combined with staple fibers

to form composite yarn in rotor.

Composite yarn is drawn through the

doffing tube.

Composite yarn onto the take up

roller.

The momentum in each yarn

in the rotor-spun composite
yarn spinning process is acted
by its centrifugal force.
The characteristics of the
composite yarn depend
mainly on how and where the
two strands of fiber and
filament are combined and
mixed, so the convergent
point is of crucial importance.
