Rebar Take-off Rules
• Steel diameters are:
– 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18mm….
• Rebar Standard Lengths are:
– 4, 5, 6, 7, 12m.
• Overlap standard distance is= 40*max Diameter for tension, 50*max Diameter for
compression.
• Cover distance = 0.005m in foundations only and 0.025m otherwise.
• Stirrup key is 0.1 *2= 0.2m
• Rebar order format is as follows:
– Calculated Number Ø Standard Diameter/ Standard Length
• Rebar volume is negligible in concrete quantity take-off.
• AGGREGATE REBAR DATA FOR SIMILAR DIAMETERS AND LENGTHS ONLY!
• FOR TONNAGE ESTIMATION MULTIPLY THE NUMBER BY THE LENGTH BY THE
UNIT WEIGHT OF BAR.
• SHOULD TRANSLATE TAKE-OFF NUMBERS ON THE A-CADS.
• Rebar Steps:
– Foundations: Strip, Isolated, Tie beams, FW
– Floors, Columns, Walls, Retaining Walls, lintels
– Slabs: P Beams, S Beams, Double Rib, Wall Beams, Ribs

Quantity Takeoff: Steel Estimating
• Steel bar standard diameters: 8mm, 10mm,
12mm, 14, 16, 18, 20, 32
• Steel bar standard lengths: 4, 5, 6, 7, 12
• Steel overlapping follow rule 40 * Q
– If you have two bars of 10mm and 16mm, find
the overlap distance?
– Select the higher diameter and multiply with
40= 16*40=640=64cm
• Distinguish between different types of steel
