AMOEBIASIS

refers to infection caused by the amoeba


Entamoeba histolytica.The term
Entamoebiasis is occasionally seen but is no
longer in use it refers to the same infection.
Likewise amoebiasis is sometimes
incorrectly used to refer to infection with other
amoebae, but strictly speaking it should be
reserved for Endameba histolytic infection.

 beaver fever in humans is a diarrheal infection of the


small intestine by a single-celled organism called
Giardia lamblia. Giardiasis occurs worldwide with a
prevalence of 20–30% in developing countries. In the
USA, 20,000 cases are reported to the CDC
annually, but the true annual incidence is estimated
at 2 million people. Giardia has a wide range
including other mammalian hosts besides humans,
thus making it very difficult to eradicate. For people
with compromised immune systems, such as elderly
or AIDS patients, giardiasis can be deadly.

Malaria
 is a mosquito-borne infectious disease caused by a
eukaryotic protest of the genus Plasmodium. It is
widespread in tropical and subtropical regions, including
parts of the Americas (22 countries), Asia, and Africa.
Each year, there are more than 250 million cases of
malaria, killing between one and three million people,
the majority of whom are young children in sub-Saharan
Africa. Ninety percent of malaria-related deaths occur in
sub-Saharan Africa. Malaria is commonly associated
with poverty, and can indeed be a cause of poverty and
a major hindrance to economic development.
