College Ready Be critical like Christ

Introduction
y y y y

When you are Biblical, you are Christological When you are Christological, you are truthful When you are truthful, you are ethical and critical of whatever is fallacious When you are truthful you will win in the battle of ideas

Defining what critical means

Being critical means scrutinizing the culture and claims of the opponents of Christianity. You are not at home in the world y Being critical excludes paranoia y Being critical is not rudeness y Being critical is not haughtiness y Being critical is not seeing people as enemies, but knowing there is spiritual warfare behind them
y

You are destined to win

The Biblical/Christian argument is destined to win because truth is built-in. y The atheist/humanist argument is meant to be defeated because error is built-in. y The role of the believer is to carefully analyze the atheist/humanist argument, unpack it, see where the error is, and then defeat the faulty reasoning. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Cor. 10:5)

When meekness and fear applies in apologetical discussions

y

A verse that is wrongfully applied in apologetic debates is from 1 Peter 3:15

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.

The verse above specifically states that when someone asks you a reason for your hope, you should do it with meekness and fear. y But when the atheist professor or classmate verbally attacks you, then you should respond in a critical way, with no resentments.

Be critical like Christ

y

Woe to you, blind guides, who say, whoever swears by the temple it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he s obliged to perform it. Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? (Matthew 23: 16-17) And He said to them, Go, tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. (Luke 13:32)

Christ confronted hypocrisy and sin head on. Whenever it was the case, He was very critical. One thing has to be mentioned, His criticism was directed against people who had knowledge of God. He did not confront the Roman authority. He was never involved in social unrest. He was kind to repenting sinners, not with all the sinners, as it is claimed by many American evangelicals.

Be critical like the apostle Paul

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. (1 Corinthians 3:18) y The apostle Paul had no tolerance for philosophy. y The Bible and philosophy are in opposition to each other

Be critical like the apostle Paul

y

because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools.
(Romans 1:21-22)

The apostle Paul was very aware of the moral decay of the pagan world. Although he was a Jew, he was born in a Roman city, Tarsus, and had Roman citizenship. He was able to analyze and censure the sin of his era, and is able to do so in ours as well.

Be critical like your critics

The liberals and atheists use/developed a whole arsenal of words/expressions with powerful results. y Here are some samples:
y

Not very compelling Not very convincing Poor argument Weak argument, to say the least Straw man argument

Be critical like your critics

When your university professor or atheistic/liberal fellow student delivers a rant against Christianity, you could use the following line of defense. The following has to be used in the context of the discussion: y Sorry, but what you just said is not very compelling. y You put a lot of work into your argument, but it s not very convincing.
y

Be critical like your critics

That s a poor argument! y In what you said, there are a lot of unwarranted statements. y Blanket generalization! y Unsubstantiated! y Please define this word.
y

Be critical like your critics

Your argument is very weak. y Your whole construct is a straw man argument. y Your essay is not credible. y Your thesis is not plausible. y Don t stereotype!
y

Antichristian biased classes at universities

Classes such as Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology, History, and Anthropology have as subject matter the human being (and society) and the world around him. y These classes have an evolutionist premise. They are meant to convey an atheistic worldview to the student. y Such courses are not primarily intended for education, but for indoctrination. y As Christians, with these issues in mind, we will approach these classes very critically and well prepared.
y

The case for Christian Philosophy

There is no such thing as Christian philosophy. Christians can do philosophy, but there is no philosophy in the Bible per say. y The only one book containing philosophical reflections is Ecclesiastes. However it should be noted that when Solomon really departed from God, he started philosophizing about life.
y

The case for Christian Philosophy

There are Christian philosophers who interact with secular counterparts to prove the prowess of the Christian mind. y Apologetics was integrated within the Christian philosophy realm, although it should stay on its own. y When preachers and theologians don t stay on the Biblical text and speculate a lot, we can say the result is Christian philosophy.

Philosophy y Before we define philosophy, we need the see what Humanism is. Humanism is the denial of any power or moral value superior to that of humanity; it is a defiant anti-God worldview y Philosophy is humanistic by definition y Philosophy apparently is love for wisdom as the etymology of this word explains it. y In reality, philosophy addresses different matters such as: analysis of the human mind and how it relates to matter, the theory of knowing, defining reality, meaning of life, understanding the universe, probing into all that human existence is.

Philosophy is a flawed system of thought y It is highly speculative y It requires devotion to a religious degree y It is anti-Biblical y It is deceptive y It leads people astray y It takes captive the minds of the people See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. (Col. 2:8)

Sociology y Sociology for the most part is Marxist. Former hippies and liberals embraced Marxism. They are on a mission to poison the minds of the future intellectuals. y K. Marx is considered the first sociologist. y Sociology is the study of human relations in the context of family, institutions, culture, organizations, and country. y Most sociology courses aim to portray Christianity as the religion of the white man, who is charged with all the evils of the world. y Sociology is the most spurious science taught in universities.

The case for Christian Psychology

The life of the soul is widely expressed in the Bible, so a whole psychological construct can be built on the Bible personages. y Today there is a whole science called Christian psychology which stands on its own and wants to replace the role of the pastor in counseling, due in part to the lack of spiritual depth of the average pastor. y Fundamentally, Christian psychology deals with theological issues.

Secular Psychology y The science that deals with mental processes, behavior and emotions at individual and group level. y Freud, the sexual pervert, greatly influenced this field. y Psychology is founded on evolutionary theory. y Today, psychologists come up with the most bizarre theories in order to support the agenda of political correctness.

History y It is the discipline that records events in relation to nations and people, in a chronological order. y History should be objective but there are political agendas which dictate the way data should be interpreted by historians. This is called revision. y Today, even in the U.S. there is a lot of revisionist history taught by the history departments. y Recently most of the history books present Islam as more benevolent than Christianity. y There is a lot of promotion of other religions and non-Christian nations, with the goal of undercutting the Christian heritage of America.

Anthropology y This discipline stands out as an instrument of manipulation in the hands of the Darwinists on university campuses. y Anthropology is the study of the human being. Evolutionary theory is the essential feature of this subject. y An anthropology course also deals with the biology, behavior, culture, and group relations of man. y This distorted science tries to slowly remove crucial differences between humans and animals. y Anthropology was proved false many times when it tried to reconstruct human skeletons from old bone fragments. In spite of the defeat, evolutionary anthropologists pursue their work with cultic determination. y Anthropology is at the service of anything anti-Christian.

Last but not Least

Don t ever join any student fraternities and student sororities on the university campus! y They are just environments for moral degradation and recruitment places for all kinds of weird secret societies.
