But you never got any grant or project funding Why? Where is the problem, where are you lacking, what is the problem. Was the project you made not good enough? Was funding agency not having funds? Are you in their blacklist? Don t have proper certificates? Recession? NO

The problem is your visibility and web presence.

Most non-profits do not have a website. They feel that they don t require website as they are not selling anything or not running a for-profit company, so why to waste money in website. Clearly there are numerous reasons why even the smallest of businesses can benefit from a Web presence, but here are five key considerations: Visibility: With more and more consumers logging onto the Web to research products and services, if they are going to find your business, your business needs to be on the Web. Reach: With a Web site, you are no longer limited to a customer base that is in physical proximity to your organization. Your place of business may be in Boston, but your customers can be in Bangkok. Customer service: When customers can log onto your Web site and easily find the information they want-when they want it-their satisfaction increases. Competition: A professional looking Web site can level the playing field for smaller companies trying to compete against larger enterprises. It's also a way to stay in the game; even if people can't find you on the Web chances are they can find your competitors. Credibility: When you can point customers, partners, even potential employees or investors to a Web site, it tells them you are a serious business.

Most NGO's that maintain websites are even worse than having a website.
Have you ever compared your NGO website with International non-profits and funding agencies website? Do you see any difference? If you don t know the websites let us tell you somewww.idealist.org, http://www.thp.org/, http://www.propoor.org, http://www.undp.org.in/, http://www.echoinggreen.org, http://www.thehungersite.com, http://www.clintonfoundation.org, http://ww5.komen.org/ http://forgenow.org http://www.ihfonline.org http://www.advocacynet.org http://www.gatesfoundation.org http://www.wellcome.ac.uk/ www.care2.org These are the website which themselves makes millions every year just having a wonderful and great website.

You did a lot of marketing of your non-profit and send so many request of donations to all the emails you have in your yahoo & gmail address book and lot more through online free classified systems. Few of people also came to your website but didn t made any donation. Are they lazy, are they greedy, they might not have money, they don t have credit card or paypal to make donation??? NO The answer is quite simple they didn t found any link or broken link to donation or after visiting your website they didn t feel like donating as nothing was visible on your website. Most International Funding agencies and general public who give the grants or donations to NGO would like to see your back record and your previous work. Are you able to show them enough? Is your website good looking enough? Do you have good pictures of your past work on your website? Are they properly arranged? Is your website accessible easily? Is your site surfing experience good enough? Do people spend enough of time on your ngo website? Are all the links properly arranged and working? Do you have a online donation system?

Have you ever thought why people spend so much time on social networking sites and wikipedia and not on non-profit sites? 1. Lack of content. 2. Lack of Past work display. 3. Site not working. 4. Broken links. 5. Site not informative and with good visibility.

Now think why social networking sites are so famous and people spent hours and hours on them and not on non-profit sites. It is simply because most of the non-profit sites lack proper site design and information. Most of their links are broken and most of the time the site is down. They dont have good social media networking and social media marketing. Most people says that social media marketing are only for commercial organization- this is wrong. Every organization either for-profit or non-profit needs social media marketing. Even Individuals like Politicians, Consultants, Lawyers, Singers, Doctors need social media marketing. Eg- Look at the website of Barack Obama, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Sashi Tharoor etc.

Now where does problem starts and endsMost non-profits do every work very authentically and wonderfully, their projects are great, team management is great, past records are neat and clean. But visibility is poor- Its a thumb rule in business field. Things which have good display will sell well. Most non-profits get trapped in cheap HTML website which cost something like 20003000 ( 50-75 USD) This website may give you a domain and 5 pages but will never give you visibility. People may even search for your name but your position in search engine will rank last. Even your ads for donations may come before your website in search engine ranking. Isn t this strange and funny Just have a look yourself at your website- do you feel like visiting your website again.

Now Just for 10 minutes consider yourself as a volunteer and not the management of your non-profit. Visit your site again and apply for a volunteer position in your own company. Do you have proper online forms where volunteers can apply? Does your site provide all the information for the volunteers like hours of work they need to spend? Details for their accommodation, food, stay and travel? Support your organization provide to them? Do you have proper contact us forms with different sections for contacting you. Most website we see have a downloadable volunteer application forms along with downloadable donation form, Do you think anyone in today s world have so much time to fill those forms and apply to you or make donation. People need fast and quick response and not so much slow and traditional forms, that s why computers replaced humans in most of the fields. Be a techno-savy organization and not 1850 charity organization.

Remember a very simple and straight thumb rule of marketing- Your first impression is your last impression, Most people who visit your website for the first time will never come back if their first experience is not good enough on your website. And if you loose them once- you loose them forever. Its sad to hear but bitter truth Its good to block such website rather than running them- it will only spoil your image. Now where you went wrong??? Remember- The site visitors read the content of the site and not coding You paid few thousands to some web-developers and web-programmers to make your website quick but forgot that slow and steady wins the race- they might be good programmers and developers but where the web-content will come from?

Do they have any experience in writing the authentic content for your website? Did they consult you and did some research before making your website?

So what could be done now? Fight and argue with your designing company? Change domain and invite people again? Hire international companies to make your website and pay them thousand of dollors? Before giving the answer to these questions and solutions to the problem let me ask you a question. Would you have read my email if I would have sent you this long email in black and white?? I know your answer will be surely a BIG NO. Who has the time to read such long email and take free of cost headache. No one will spend so much time in reading such lengthy and long emails. Similarly no-one also give a look at inside pages of your website just by looking its front page. Remember a picture is worth more than 1000 words and there most NGO lack. Their site lacks good display, good content, good pictures and good arrangement of links and information.
