Industry Profile

Co-operative movement started in India in the last decade of the 19th century. In June 1974, an integrated project was launched in Karnataka to restructure and reorganize the dairy industry on the cooperative principle and to lay foundation for a new direction in dairy development project was initiated in 1975.

Special features of mother dairy


ISO-9001-2000 and HACCP-15OOO certificate from the bureau of Indian standards during the year 2000 and has obtained ISO-220002005 certificate in the year 2008. Performance highlights
At present an average payment of Rs. 342 lakh/day is paid to milk producers. Kmf has exported skim milk powder to Nepal, Bangladesh, Oman, Burma during 2000-2008 about 9168 MTs has been exported. Opening of nandini Dairy farmers welfare trust hostel for farmers children at the cost of Rs. 12.96 crores for the higher education of 600 boys and 400 girls.

Reasonable price While purchasing materials, it will purchase at a reasonable low price. Quality is not to be sacrificed at the cost of price, the material purchased should be of that quality alone which is needed. Availability of continuous milk in the organization so that the production may not be held up for requirement of milk.

The products manufactures have very short life and therefore the section heads have to plan organized for rapid dispatch to the market before it loses its nutritional value. Packing section is attached to the production department.

STORES SECTION
Storage involves the proper arrangement for retaining the goods in a perfect state till they are need by the consumers and are to be taken to the market place. As soon as the stock arrives, the stores keeper checks the quality and enters ante same into their receipts ledger, where the job of the accounting for stocks carries on until they are sent to the department which requires this information.

OPPORTUNITIES
Since Nandini is well known brand, it has opportunity to diversify in to some other business. Mother Dairy is concentrating only on local market; it has got opportunity to enter into Foreign market. It has got infrastructure to expand the production capacity.

Threats After liberalization, entry barriers in the dairy industry eased for new entrants. Private dairies procure milk at low cost from producers and sell milk resorting to unethical trade practices.
