INTRODUCTION
O.N.G.C is India's leading oil and gas exploration company. It has a share of 77 percent in India's crude oil production and 81 % in India's natural gas production. Origin of O.N.G.C can be trace to industrial policy statement of 1948 called for development petroleum industry in India. After 1991 O.N.G.C was re-organized as a limited company under the companies act 1956. ONGC has a fully owned subsidiary, ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) that looks for exploration opportunities in other parts of the world. OVL is pursuing exploration of oil and gas in Russia, Iran, Iraq, Libya Myanmar and other countries.
NGC ranks 3rd Oil & Gas Exploration & Production (E&P) Company in the world and 23rd among leading global energy. ONGC ranked 402nd position as per Fortune Global 500 - 2009 list; based on revenues, profits, assets and shareholders equity. ONGCs wholly-owned subsidiary ONGC Videsh Ltd. (OVL) is the biggest Indian multinational, with 40 Oil & Gas projects. 6.89 billion tones of In-place hydrocarbon reserves with more than 300 discoveries of oil and gas. 6 out of the 7 producing basins have been discovered by ONGC: out of these In-place hydrocarbons in domestic acreages. Judged as Asia's best Oil & Gas company, as per a recent survey conducted by US-based magazine 'Global Finance.
