About the Novel

The Goal is unique because it explains a business model through fiction. Its an intriguing, entertaining novel and at the same time a thought provoking business book. Goldratt does an excellent job explaining his concepts, especially how to work with constraints and bottlenecks.

Constraints
Anything that limits a systems from achieving higher performance versus its goal.
Identify

the systems constraints. Decide how to exploit the systems constraints. Subordinate everything else to the above decision. Elevate the systems constraints. If in the previous steps a constraint has been broken, go back to Step 1.

Bottleneck
A phenomenon where the performance or capacity of an entire system is limited by a single or limited number of constraints or resources.

GOAL
What is the Goal?
To

make money.

Operational expenses

Inventory Throughput

The Process of Change

The Socratic Method a way to overcome resistance to change. Approach involves asking questions that help a person invent their own solutions.

The Effect-Cause-Effect Method

It is a process of speculating a cause for a given effect and then predicting other effects from the same cause.

The Evaporating Clouds Method

To find minimum number of changes that are needed to create an environment where the core problem cannot exist.
