DEFINITION
Metamorphosis is a biological process by which an animal physically develops after birth or hatching, involving a conspicuous and relatively abrupt change in the animal's form or structure through cell growth and differentiation

known as simple, gradual, or incomplete metamorphosis. - In this metamorphosis, the development of larva often proceeds in repeated stages of growth and ecdysis (molting). These stages are called instars. - The juvenile forms closely resemble adults, but smaller than adults and lack wings.

HOLOMETABOLISM
known as complex or complete metamorphosis - The larva differ markedly from the adults - Insects pass through the larval stage , enter inactive stage called pupa, then finally emerge as adults. - While inside the pupa, insects destroy the larvas body, only leave few cells inside. The remaining cells will grow using nutrients from larva

- Whether the insects spend more time in adults stage or in its juvenile form, depends on the species. For examples, mayfly, whose non-eating, adult stages for one day. The cicada, whose juvenile stage underground for 13 to 17 years. These species have incomplete metamorphosis.

HORMONAL CONTROL
-Insects

metamorphosis are controlled by hormoned that synthezised by endocrine glands near the front of the body. - Some cells secrete a hormone that activates thoracic glands, which secrete second hormone, usually a Ecdysone, steroid that induces metamorphosis.

AMPHIBIAN METAMORPHOSIS
Stages in metamorphosis of a frog. -Amphibian metamorphosis undergoes a single change from larvae, called a tadpole, to an adult. - Metamorphosis begins with the development of the hind legs, then the front legs. The lungs develop and the tadpole begins to swim to the surface of the water to breathe.

DEVIATION of AMPHIBIAN LIFECYCLE

-Some

species of salamander, for example Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) didnt feel the adult stage. Axolotl only feel the tadpole stage. But, in that stage, axolotl does reproduction. Its called neoteny. Its happen cause of environmental stresses (lack of iodine or low thermal). - Many species of frog tropics lay eggs on the land, where the tadpoles undergo metamorphosis within the egg. Once they hatch, they are immature copies of the adults, sometimes possesing a tail which is re-absorbed in couple of days.
