Abstract
The infrared radiations are transmitted and received

by ir leds and photo transistor respectively The project emphases the way by which music is generated and driven by ir rays The main idea behind this project is to generate musical notes by infrared radiations The circuit uses popular melody generator IC UM66. It can be used in wireless music systems.

Introduction:
The receiver can be placed at a maximum distance of 1

meter from the transmitter with out any considerable noise interferences. Communication distance can be improved by using ir LEDs. Using this circuit audio musical notes can be generated and can be heard up to a distance of 10 meters. The range of communication can be increased to about 250 meters by using far ir leds

Components used
o MELODY GENERATOR IC UM66
o LED o OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIER IC 741

o IR LED PHOTO TRANSISTOR L14FI

o AUDIO POWER AMPLIFIER LM386

IC UM66 MELODY GENERATOR:

It uses the musical 3 pin IC UM66 and a popularly known

transistor BC548b. This is simplest ever musical calling bell . Here the musical IC UM66 generates the music when it receives supply and drives a small speaker through a class c amplifier using silicon transistor BC548b. UM66 series are cmos Ics designed for using in calling bell ,phone and toys. The device has very low power consumption. The melody will be available at pin3 of UM66 and here it is amplified by using Q1 to drive t he speaker.

LED:
LED stands for light emitting diode.
This is used for the representation of sound signal in

the form of light signals. To protect the LED ,resistance of 1k must be connected in series with LED.

IR LED:
IR LEDs are infrared transmitting LEDs.
These are used for the transmission of melody with out

any connection that is wireless connection. These are omni directional in nature.

phototransistor
Photo transistor is a much more semi conducter

device. Here photo transistor is used as a light detector. Which is placed in receiver section to detect the ir signals from the transmission section.

AUDIO POWER AMPLIFIER

This is a monolithic power amplifier offering very low

distortion and high quality performance for audio applications. Voltage gain typically 90db. Output power 30w.

PRECAUTIONS
Never connect the IC in reverse supply connection.
Power supply must be between 1.5v and 4.5v. Do not exceed 4.5v.

Speaker can be driven with external npn transistor.

Melody begins from the first note if power is rested. Assemble the circuit on a good quality common board.

Transmitter circuit diagrram

Transmitter operation:
The ir music transmitter works of a 9v battery. The above figure shows the circuit of ir music

transmitter. It uses popular melody generator IC UM66 that continuously generate musical tones. The output of IC is fed to theS ir driver stage to get the maximum range. Here ir LEDs flickers musical tones generated by UM66 IC indicating modulation. Ir LEDs are infrared transmitting LEDs.

RECEIVER CIRCUIT OPERATION

The ir music receivers uses popular op amp IC 741 and

audio frequency amplifier IC LM386 along with photo transistors and discrete components. The melody generated by IC UM66 is transmitted through ir LEDs ,received by photo transistor and fed to IC741. Its gain can be varied using pot meter.the output of IC741 is fed to IC LM386 via capacitor and pot meter. Te melody produced is heard through the receivers loud speaker. Pot meter is used for control of volume of loud speaker.

APPLICATIONS
Wireless music systems.
Mobile gadgets. Cc cameras.

Remote controls.
Infrared lasers are used in communications.

advantages
Highly sensitive.
Two stage gain control. Very low noise.

Low cost and reliable circuit.

Can transmit up to 10 meters.

DISADVANTAGES
Not for long distances.
Work in fixed range. Noise if object between transmitter and receiver.ssss

conclusion
Ir ray communication is very easy to understand and

simple to implement. It finds various applications in short distance field of communications. in future there is a scope of building virtual environment using the principles of ir music transmission and reception.
