Overview of Scheme of Work

Lower 6
1st term: Paper 1, Paper 2 2nd term: Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 4 (started) 3rd term: Paper 1, Paper2 (completed)

Upper 6
1st term: Paper 3, Paper 4 2nd term: Paper 3, Paper 4 3rd term: Paper3, Paper 4 (completed)

Computing 9691 Year 1

First term (TOPICS) - Components of a Computer System and Modes of Use - System Software - Programming Tools and Techniques (p2) Justification Allow for smooth transition from form 5 to lower six and help student to grasp the concepts well for further detailed explanations. New concepts are found in P1 about OS and Hardware. Students have covered algorithm in form 5. It helps to refresh their memory about algorithm and then move to further details.

Computing 9691 Year 1

Second term
- Programming Tools and Techniques (p2) - Data: Its Representation, Structure and Management - Hardware - Data Transmission and Networking - Systems Development Life Cycle -P4 to be started

Justification
-initiating students to binary, number manipulation and new data structure so that next year they do not have difficulties with data management and representation. Deeper knowledge about networks from what have been done in form 5. SDLC will help students to start their P4 by the end of 2nd term.

Computing 9691 Year 1

Third term - Choosing Applications Software for Application Areas - Handling of Data in Information Systems - Designing the User Interface - Logic gates - P4 Justification Helps students to decide the type of software they may need for P4 Theoretical knowledge about data verification so that students can include it in their P4 project.

Computing 9691 Year 2

First term (TOPICS) - The Functions of Operating Systems - The Functions and Purposes of Translators - Computer Architectures and the FetchExecute Cycle - Data Representation, Data Structures and Data Manipulation - P4 project Justification Topics about OS can help student understand other coming topics like the Functions and Purposes of Translators and Computer Architectures and the Fetch-Execute Cycle Computer Architectures data representation will enable student to understand topics like programming paradigm(register use in assembly language / data structure used like stack , queues..) Students are encourage to start design phase (p4) so that they complete by the end of second term.

Computing 9691 Year 2

Second term - Programming Paradigms - Databases Justification Student have already got a brief ideas about stack queue, data structure and programming in previous term s and paper. By 2nd term students will have started database design and the theory about database will help them in designing their database and drawing relationship diagrams.

Computing 9691 Year 2

Third term - Simulation and Real-time Processing - Common Network Environments, Connectivity and Security Issues Justification Some knowledge have been already covered in P1, so easier for student to understand about networking and simulation.
