EVANGELISM TO MAKE DISCIPLES
•Focus on contact •Focus on Relations

•Identifies Immediate problems •Identifies opportunities and resolve problems for live

•Charity oriented • Relationship oriented seeking spiritual sustainability

•Strategies for events Strategies to put Gifts of church to serve persons

to make disciples
•Members activism •Service of Gifts

•The emphasis is to make contact with persons •The emphasis is to establish long-term relationships with
persons, businesses, local associations, networks, agencies,
other congregations and social groups.
•Focus on the individual •Focus on the community and regions

See persons as “Realm Clients” •See persons as “Realm Producers”

•Seeks “To Arrange” the problem of Salvation of persons •Seeks “To Develop” the potential of Salvation of persons and
make them commit themselves with the Salvation of others
•The result: Maintaining the Christian •Result: Develop the Christian
•The Events and the Salvation are the answer. •The Persons their Salvation, their Relationships and the

Billions Live in Poverty
Global Distribution of
Wealth

75% of the world lives

on less than $5 per day
Economic Growth Doesn’t
Benefit All
 Today’s world economy is 7 times larger
than in 1950

 Income gap between wealthy and poor

countries has doubled in 50 years
Wealth Disparities Affect
the Vulnerable
 15% of the world possess 79%
of the wealth
 The remaining 85% survive with
21% of wealth
 25,000 children die of hunger every day
 1 to 3 million African children die of malaria each
year—a sickness that can easily be prevented.
Is the root of poverty a
lack of money?
Or
Is the root of poverty a
spiritual root?

Are we praying very

Reality
Today’s Global Context of
Mission
• Current political solutions not working
• These solutions rely on free-marketing competition
• Imbalance of power means: in competition the strong
become stronger and the weak become weaker
• The rich become richer and the poor become poorer.
• Conclusion: study of today’s poverty ratifies the Biblical
insight that the main cause of poverty is oppression
God’s Purpose for
Humankind
• Disobedience in Eden broken relationships:
 Relationship with God is broken: idolatry
 Human relationships are broken: political oppression & injustice
 Relationship with God’s creation is broken: misuse of natural
resources
 GOD CAN HEAL THESE RELATIONSHIPS:
- establish Kingdom of justice and peace
- side with the weak
God’s Love for All

• The LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of

lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who
is not partial and takes no bribe, who executes
justice for the orphan and the widow, and who
loves
the strangers, providing them food and clothing.
You shall love the stranger, for you were
strangers in the land of Egypt.
• Deuteronomy 10.17-19
God’s Justice

• Redistribution of social, economic, and

political power for abundance of life for
every human being
• Everyone is of equal value, so is entitled
to a fair share
Justice as Mercy

He has told you, O mortal, what is good;

and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:8
Embodiment of God’s
Love
• The person and work of Jesus Christ
• Anointed by the Spirit to bring good news
to the poor
• Gospels show the poor were the priority of
Jesus’ ministry
The Role of
Church
Transformation

• The church as God’s agent of transformation

• God’s Kingdom of justice and peace, brought into
history by Jesus Christ
• Mission of the church is cooperating with God in
transforming human life
• The church is the means through which relations
broken by sin are healed
• Then, God’s shalom can be made visible in
socioeconomic, political and spiritual
transformation
Special Role of the
Church
•The church has been given a special place in the
fulfillment of God’s purpose for humankind. This
fulfillment is made visible in society primarily
through local churches—congregations of disciples
of Jesus Christ—in the extent to which they
engage in God’s mission (to make disciples)
wherever they are.
Priorities of the Church

• A top priority for the church is to enable

people to articulate and analyze their needs
• This prevents the church from jumping in
with her own agenda.
• It can also help the church to begin
developing meaningful links with the
community.
Church Commitments

•Integral mission requires of the local church the

following commitments:
• to Jesus Christ as the Lord of all creation
• to one another
• to the world as the object of God’s love
• to the priesthood of all believers
• to servant leadership
• to flexible church structures (Who works
100% for the Lord?)
The Church as God’s Agent
of Transformation
• Local church is a work force that can be
mobilized to serve the poor
• There are 100,000 parachurch organizations.
Heavily dependent on volunteer help
• Important faith-based means through which
Christians are seeking to serve the poor
The Role of
Christians NGOs
Christian NGOs

• Staff with expertise to contribute to the work

among the poor.
• Staff with time to carry out projects church
leaders can not.
• Part of a wider network, and under Apostolic
coverage
• Access to funding not available to local
churches
The role of Christian NGOs
•If the local church is designed to have a special
place in restoring the relationships that have been
broken by sin between men and God, its
empowerment must be a primary concern for all
Christian NGOs

•NGOs must help the church as agent of

Transformation: Renewal of the mind
A Call to Service

Is not this the fast that I choose: to lose the bonds

of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let
the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and
to bring the homeless poor into your house; when
you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide
yourself from your own kin?
Isaiah 58:6-7
The role of Christian NGOs

• The task of empowering the churches to practice

mercy in terms of good works and to do justice in
terms of advocacy is a very difficult task.
– It demands a change of mind, a recovery of the gospel as
a message to be lived out, proclaimed in words and
demonstrated through good works. (STOP BEING
EVANGELICS)
– It also demands a recovery of a view of the church as the
community of the Lord Jesus, the crucified Messiah. A
difficult task, indeed—and yet, an unavoidable task

Bible principles why to activate the
church through micro loans or
micro businesses to
build relationships?
• The Lord spoke of money and managing
material things more than any thing else.
• Out of His 32 Parables, 19 are about
money.
A few Biblical facts about
money
Written In Bible:
• 500 times praying
• < 500 times Faith
• 2.350 times how to manage
money and our belongings
Some facts of money
management in Bible
• The way we manage money affects our relation with God. Luck 16:11 “If
therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon
(riches), who will commit to your trust the true riches?” Mat 25:21.

2. The way we managed money is an external sign of our internal condition

Luck 16:10 “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in
much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”

3. The material things compete with God for the first place. Mathew 6:24 “No
man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love
the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You
cannot serve God and mammon (riches).”

4. The greatest time spent in our life is making money. How many hours do
you work a day?

The better way I manage money the better relation I have with God.
