OBJECTIVES
 To understand facts and concepts
concerning various aspects of the
environment.
 To recognize dependence of human
life on the environment
 To Develop awareness and
appreciation for the protection,
preservation and conservation of the
environment.
SKILLS REQUIRED
 Students must know about the things
present around them.
 They must be aware of their
surroundings and the factors affecting
them.
 They should know that man depends
on plants, animals, water, sun, soil
etc. for his survival.
DEFINITION
 Everything that surrounds
us may be collectively
termed as OUR
ENVIRONMENT.
 Whether you live on a
farm, in a small town or on
a big city street, you are
part of an environment.
TYPES OF ENVIRONMENT
 Our environment is made up of two
components- the physical and biological.
Air, water, land and regular pattern of
weather conditions like heat ,
temperature, gravity etc. are the abiotic
components . Plants ,animals etc. are the
biotic components.
BIOTIC COMPONENTS …….
 DECOMPOSERS- Organisms like bacteria ,
fungi, moths etc. are called decomposers.
 SCAVENGERS- Organisms like kites and
vultures feed on the dead remains of
animals.
ABIOTIC COMPONENTS…….
 AIR OR ATMOSPHERE-
There is an envelope of
air around the Earth
called the atmosphere. It
consists of various gases
out of which oxygen is
required for respiration.
 WATER- It is the most
important non – living
components of our
environment.
DEFORESTATION
 Due to increase in human population the

need for land for cultivation and housing

is continuously increasing. This is

resulting in large scale cutting of forests

which is called deforestation.

 Hunting – Indiscriminate hunting of
animals for sport, skin ,horns or tusks
causes an imbalance in the environment.
POLLUTION
 Pollution of air -Man has been
responsible for degrading the
quality of environment by all kinds
of waste materials. Air is polluted
by smoke from trains, factories and
thermal power station . The smoke
contains certain harmful gases
which damage the respiratory
system of man and other animals.
Noise Pollution
 The disturbance produced in the
environment by undesirable loud
sound is called noise pollution.
POLLUTION…..

 Pollution of land – Land is

polluted by extensive use
of insecticides, pesticides
and fertilizers.
Water Pollution

 Pollution of water – Two thirds of the

earth area is occupied by water.
However , the world is running short
of fresh water very fast. Sewage , oil
, industrial and agricultural wastes
are the most important contributors
to pollution of water.
PROTECTION OF ENVIRONMENT

 Remember three R’s –

 Reduce

 Reuse

 Recycle

 Grow plants .
 Do not use plastic bags.
 Save water .
Reduce
 We must reduce unnecessary use of
water
 We must reduce wastage
 We must reduce unnecessary use of
automobiles
 We must reduce noise pollution
QUERIES
 What is the definition of environment ?
 Name the abiotic components of our
environment .
 What is meant by deforestation ?
 What is pollution ?

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
 We are thankful to Mr. Sukhjeet
Singh which has given us the
opportunity to learn the basics of
computers and help us to make this
project.
 We are also thankful to Mrs. Neelam
who patiently taught us so much
about environment in such a short
span of time and under whose able
guidance we were able to complete
our project.
