It is an active but temporary entry into the client's life to support the client, help client resolve existing crisis, restore the client to precrisis level of functioning, and to facilitate the client's attainment of a higher level of functioning.
CRISIS
defined as a perception of an event or situation as an intolerable difficulty that exceeds the persons resources and coping mechanism. any serious interruption in the functioning of an individual, family or group usually takes place 24-72 hours prior to seeking help usually self-limiting, and resolved within 4-6 weeks early prevention improves prognosis clients most suicidal 3 days after the life-changing event
FIVE FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH CRISIS 1. The symptoms of stress results in psychological and physiological discomfort. 2. The client feels intense emotion such as feelings of inadequacy, helplessness, panic or agitation. 3. The client is more concerned with gaining relief from the symptom than with the problem that precipitated the symptom. 4. The client has reduced ability to function efficiently. 5. The crisis occurs during a short period of time.
2. Assessment Counselors must assess the severity of the crisis. Counselor must determine whether the client is mentally able to take an active role in crisis intervention. 3. Action Provide the client with rest. Once the client receives rest and equilibrium, has been restored, counseling strategies can be implemented.
