Sensors used
3 sensors for electrical appliances use. 1 sensor for bed use. 1 sensor for water use. Panic button for emergency need.

10

DESCRIPTION OF THE DEVELOPED SYSTEM

Identifying abnormal activity .

Achieved using various kinds of sensors. Implementation of WSN.

11

Selective Activity Monitoring (S.A.M.)Cognitive Sensors. Dependency on WSN.

12

Monitoring of Electrical Appliances

Electrical appliances used by the elderly . One sensor required to detect each electrical appliance. Electrical appliance monitoring unit.

13

Current transformer for the detection of current. Output voltage produced. This voltage signal is then passed to amplifier.

14

Comparator circuit generates a transition .

Generated transitions fed to microcontroller.

Microcontroller program .

Presence of intelligent load detection software.

15

Monitoring Water-Use
Flow sensor to monitor water use. Sensor output is connected to microcontroller. Provides the microcontroller with information. Water use will provide status of elderly people.

16

Fabricated water use monitoring unit.

17

Bed Monitoring Unit

Novelty of our bed monitoring sensor -> very simple -> low cost ->low complexity ->good accuracy ->can pick up various movements on the bed. Intelligent bed monitoring system based on Flexi Force sensor.

18

Ultra-thin (0.008) flexible, nonobtrusive printed circuit.

Flexi Force sensor is connected to driving circuit .

Circuit is connected to microcontroller.

Microcontroller send information to controller.

Sensor are placed under the legs of a bed.

19

Flexi-Force sensors are to determine if force is exerted.

Output signals from the microcontroller.

Normal situation four sensors read similar weights.

When any person lies on bed, sensors read different weights.

20

Interfacing of force sensors to microcontroller.

21

Panic Button

Used in case of emergency or an urgent assistance. Has highest priority.

SMS are sent to any cell phone around the world. Cellular Modem Cellular modem receives commands from the supervisory program .
22

Communication Protocol

Sensor units and the central controller unit are equipped with RF transceivers. Error checking is done.

Control Algorithm

Control software. It allows the user to configure the sensor units.

Once the sensors have been set up, the monitoring can start.

Rule type one checks whether an appliance is activated within a given time period.

Rule type two checks whether an appliance is still active after a predetermined time.
