All Rights Reserved Alcatel-Lucent 2008 OS9000E Overview

Introduction
This presentation introduce The new Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 9000E series the new, high capacity core switch built re-using components of the existing OmniSwitch 9000 Chassis LAN Switch and based on a new AOS release (6.4.1). The OmniSwitch 9000E addresses the need for a secured and highly available voice, data and video solution for large enterprise core switches and data centers, or a metro Ethernet environment (MPLS). This presentation does not include: - In Depth feature description. - MPLS technical and feature overview.

Whats new: OS 9000E In-Service Upgrade

With in service upgrades the OS9000E realizes full resiliency because: - Critical software upgrades (Maintenance Patch) to the system can now be accomplished without a full system reboot. - The system remains operational with very limited traffic impact during software upgrades.

System to automatically => validate the ISSU build stored in ISSU and certification of the system (Working = Certified) => replicate ISSU on CMM-B (Secondary) => reload CMM-B on the ISSU build (ISSU) => initiate a take-over from CMM-A to CMM-B

4. System is now running on CMM-B (Primary) => Running code is based on ISSU => Graceful restart to kick-in (OSPF/BGP) => CMM-A is reloaded on ISSU

Key Takeway
OS900E is not the OS9000 Replacement: it complete the Portfolio. OS9000 for Edge, Aggregation, Core. OS9000E for Core, Datacenter and Campus. Segmentation of the network will no longer require multiple platforms because the OmniSwitch 9000E integrates Multi-VRF. With in service upgrades the system remains operational providing zero downtime during software patching. MPLS* ready, only requiring an AOS software upgrade and SW license.
